Governors’ BiographiesMr Philip Rodney LLBChairPhilip Rodney studied Law with English, Economics <strong>and</strong> Industrial Administration at the University <strong>of</strong> Strathclyde. He qualified as a solicitorin 1976, <strong>and</strong> was a Partner at Alex<strong>and</strong>er Stone <strong>and</strong> Co from 1979 to 1998 before becoming a Partner at Burness LLP. He is nowChairman <strong>of</strong> Burness. As a lawyer, he is singled out as a leading individual in Dispute Resolution, Defamation <strong>and</strong> Media & Entertainmentby Chambers UK 2013. Philip is a Governor <strong>of</strong> Hutchesons’ Educational Trust in <strong>Glasgow</strong>.Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Seona Reid CBE BA (Hons) D.<strong>Art</strong>s D.Litt FRSADirectorSeona was appointed Director in 1999, having served as Director <strong>of</strong> the Scottish <strong>Art</strong>s Council for nine years <strong>and</strong> before that as AssistantDirector <strong>of</strong> Greater London <strong>Art</strong>s, Director <strong>of</strong> Shape, Head <strong>of</strong> Public Relations Ballet Rambert, Press <strong>and</strong> Publicity Officer at Northern DanceTheatre, Business Manager, Lincoln Theatre Royal <strong>and</strong> a freelance arts consultant working with the <strong>Art</strong>s Council <strong>of</strong> Great Britain <strong>and</strong> theLondon Contemporary Dance Trust. She is a member <strong>of</strong> Universities Scotl<strong>and</strong> Executive Committee <strong>and</strong> a board member <strong>of</strong> Cove Park. InApril 20<strong>11</strong> she was appointed as Deputy Chair <strong>of</strong> the National Heritage Memorial Fund / Heritage Lottery Fund <strong>and</strong> Chair <strong>of</strong> the ScottishCommittee <strong>and</strong> is Scottish Commissioner to the Fulbright Commission. In recent years, she was a member <strong>of</strong> the Knowledge <strong>and</strong>Evaluation Committee <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Art</strong>s <strong>and</strong> Humanities Research Council, a Commissioner on the Scottish Broadcasting Commission, vice chair<strong>of</strong> the Lighthouse Centre for Architecture, Design <strong>and</strong> the City <strong>and</strong> on the boards <strong>of</strong> the Arches <strong>and</strong> Suspect Culture Theatre. She hashonorary degrees from Robert Gordon University, the University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Glasgow</strong>, <strong>Glasgow</strong> Caledonian University <strong>and</strong> Strathclyde University.She is an honorary pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Glasgow</strong> <strong>and</strong> was awarded a CBE in 2008 for services to the creative industries.Ms Alison Lefroy Brooks BA (Hons) ACA MCTVice-ChairAlison is a chartered accountant <strong>and</strong> worked for KPMG in London before specialising in treasury. She worked for the BOC Group plc <strong>and</strong>was Assistant Treasurer at the TPG Group NV, based in the Netherl<strong>and</strong>s prior to moving to Scotl<strong>and</strong> to take up the role <strong>of</strong> Group Treasurerfor Aggreko plc, the global leader in the rental <strong>of</strong> power, temperature control <strong>and</strong> oil-free compressed air systems to customers around theworld. She is chair <strong>of</strong> the Scottish discussion group for the Association <strong>of</strong> Corporate Treasurers.Sir Muir Russell KCB FRSEVice-ChairMuir was the first Permanent Secretary to the Scottish Executive following devolution <strong>and</strong> then Principal <strong>and</strong> Vice-Chancellor <strong>of</strong> theUniversity <strong>of</strong> <strong>Glasgow</strong> from 2003 to 2009, when he was Convener, Universities Scotl<strong>and</strong>, member <strong>of</strong> the boards <strong>of</strong> UUK <strong>and</strong> UCAS <strong>and</strong>trustee <strong>of</strong> USS. Currently he chairs the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotl<strong>and</strong>, the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees <strong>of</strong> the Royal Botanic GardenEdinburgh <strong>and</strong> the Dunedin Concert Trust; <strong>and</strong> is a board member <strong>of</strong> the Moredun Research Institute. He is a member <strong>of</strong> the board <strong>of</strong>NHBC (the National House-Building Council) <strong>and</strong> chairs its Scottish Committee. He is also a member <strong>of</strong> the Council <strong>of</strong> the Royal Society <strong>of</strong>Edinburgh. A graduate <strong>of</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Glasgow</strong> in Natural Philosophy, Muir was created KCB in 2001 <strong>and</strong> FRSE in 2000 <strong>and</strong> givenhonorary degrees by the Universities <strong>of</strong> Strathclyde, <strong>Glasgow</strong> <strong>and</strong> Edinburgh.Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Linda Drew BA (Hons) MA PhD FRSA FDRSDeputy Director <strong>and</strong> Director <strong>of</strong> Academic Development (from October 20<strong>11</strong>)Linda joined the GSA in August 20<strong>11</strong> from the University <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Art</strong>s London (UAL) where she was Dean <strong>of</strong> the Graduate <strong>School</strong> forCamberwell, Chelsea <strong>and</strong> Wimbledon. She is currently the Chair <strong>of</strong> CHEAD (Council for Higher Education in <strong>Art</strong> <strong>and</strong> Design) <strong>and</strong> is amember <strong>of</strong> the Design Commission, an industry-led research group, which sits alongside the Associate Parliamentary Design <strong>and</strong>Innovation Group. She is also a member <strong>of</strong> the Singapore British Business Council <strong>and</strong> an External Quality Reviewer for arts highereducation at the Singapore Ministry <strong>of</strong> Education. Linda was Head <strong>of</strong> College at Chelsea College <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong> <strong>and</strong> Design (UAL 2006-7). Beforejoining the University <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Art</strong>s as Dean at Chelsea in 2003, she was Co-Director <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Art</strong>, Design <strong>and</strong> Communication subject centrebased at the University <strong>of</strong> Brighton. She is founding editor <strong>of</strong> the highly regarded peer-reviewed research journal <strong>Art</strong>, Design <strong>and</strong>Communication in Higher Education, published by Intellect books for over 10 years. Linda is an alumna <strong>of</strong> Saint Martins <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong>, aFellow <strong>of</strong> the Design Research Society (FDRS) <strong>and</strong> a Fellow <strong>of</strong> the Royal Society <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Art</strong>s (FRSA).Ms Kerry Aylin BA (Hons) FHEA EADiMKerry graduated from The <strong>Glasgow</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong> in 1983. After <strong>11</strong> year in industry, she returned to GSA as a member <strong>of</strong> staff. She hasbeen running her own design business since 1994, where her creative work has been mostly in communication design, primarily publishing<strong>and</strong> interactive technology. Amongst her accomplishments are a Scottish Design Award, Europrix winner, Prix Mobius shortlist <strong>and</strong> BritishInteractive Media Awards finalist. She is a Fellow <strong>of</strong> the Higher Education Academy <strong>and</strong> member <strong>of</strong> European Academy <strong>of</strong> Digital Media. AtGSA, Kerry supports all schools as a specialist in assistive technologies <strong>and</strong> in the innovative application <strong>of</strong> technology to traditional industrytechniques <strong>and</strong> divergent thinking. Kerry has been an Adobe Education Leader <strong>and</strong> contact for the Adobe Partnership for a number <strong>of</strong>years.13
