Embassy LatestTrad<strong>in</strong>g places at <strong>the</strong> EmbassyEva Kopecká has jo<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>the</strong> team at <strong>the</strong> Trade & Investment Section<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>British</strong> Embassy <strong>in</strong> Prague. She takes over from LucieVotavová, who has gone on maternity leave.Eva is responsible for <strong>the</strong> supervision <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Overseas MarketIntroduction Services for <strong>British</strong> companies wish<strong>in</strong>g to export oridentify potential partners <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong> <strong>Republic</strong>. She is also responsiblefor identify<strong>in</strong>g bus<strong>in</strong>ess opportunities for <strong>British</strong> companiesby visit<strong>in</strong>g local companies and trade fairs, as well as deal<strong>in</strong>g withcommercial publicity, public enquiries and o<strong>the</strong>r adm<strong>in</strong>istrativematters. Her sector responsibilities <strong>in</strong>clude tourism and culturalheritage, tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, education, advertis<strong>in</strong>g and media. In partnershipwith UK Trade & Investment and o<strong>the</strong>r UK bus<strong>in</strong>ess partners,she will be organis<strong>in</strong>g sem<strong>in</strong>ars, trade missions and o<strong>the</strong>r eventswith<strong>in</strong> her sector responsibilities.After her graduation from <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> Economics <strong>in</strong> Prague,Eva started work<strong>in</strong>g for foreign trade corporation Pragoexport,where she was responsible for <strong>the</strong> worldwideexport <strong>of</strong> stationery products; followed byemployment at ICL as Logistics manager. She<strong>the</strong>n moved on to Rank Xerox and as Market<strong>in</strong>gManager was responsible for activities with<strong>in</strong><strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong> and Slovak <strong>Republic</strong>s. She ga<strong>in</strong>edfur<strong>the</strong>r experience at <strong>the</strong> Rank Xerox InternationalHeadquarters <strong>in</strong> London where she stayedfor four months. Her last job was with US basedEva KopeckáTrade and Investment Advisermanagement consultation company IMPAC,where she worked as consultant responsiblefor public relations and market<strong>in</strong>g projects <strong>in</strong><strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong> <strong>Republic</strong>, Poland, Romania, Germany, Holland, Denmark,<strong>the</strong> UK and Ireland.Besides her native <strong>Czech</strong>, Eva is fluent <strong>in</strong> English and has agood knowledge <strong>of</strong> German. Former journalist Peter Wickenden jo<strong>in</strong>ed<strong>the</strong> team <strong>in</strong> October 2003 as Section Head. Until early August,ano<strong>the</strong>r ex-scribe Karolína Rezková worked <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> section as Pressand Public Affairs Officer. And on her departure for maternity leaveshe was replaced by a person com<strong>in</strong>g from, where else, but anewspaper. Ingrid Ludvíková, <strong>the</strong> new Press and Public AffairsOfficer, has jo<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>the</strong> Embassy after nearly two years at <strong>the</strong> weeklyEnglish language publication The Prague Post. “I worked <strong>the</strong>re asa researcher and later on also wrote my own stories. A reporter’sjob is a great challenge, mostly when you need to worm out <strong>in</strong>formationfrom places where it is next to impossible to obta<strong>in</strong>.” Ingridexpla<strong>in</strong>s. Ingrid’s experience <strong>of</strong> all <strong>the</strong> pitfalls and banana sk<strong>in</strong>s <strong>of</strong>communication with state <strong>of</strong>ficials and spokespeople equips herwell for tackl<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> tricky tasks ahead.“Now I have jo<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>the</strong> oppos<strong>in</strong>g side, so to speak. Monika was educated at <strong>the</strong> Law Faculty <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Charles University <strong>in</strong> Prague, and has a law and tax advisory pr<strong>of</strong>essionalbackground. Before jo<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Embassy Monika workedfor Deloitte & Touche Prague as a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> tax department teamfor three years, and for <strong>Czech</strong> NGO Bílý kruh bezpečí (White Circle <strong>of</strong>Safety) where she worked on a series <strong>of</strong> projects related to domesticviolence. Hav<strong>in</strong>g found that she prefers organis<strong>in</strong>g and deal<strong>in</strong>g withpeople ra<strong>the</strong>r than study<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> precise word <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> law, Monikaapplied for <strong>the</strong> post <strong>of</strong> project <strong>of</strong>ficer. She has also become a student<strong>of</strong> psychology, and has among her o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>in</strong>terests dance, yoga, moviesand travell<strong>in</strong>g. She is married with one son and one daughter.In her new role at <strong>the</strong> Embassy Monika is responsible for <strong>the</strong>management and co-ord<strong>in</strong>ation <strong>of</strong> UK-<strong>Czech</strong> bilateral co-operationprojects. Funded by <strong>the</strong> Foreign Commonwealth Office’s (FCO) ma<strong>in</strong>programme budgets, <strong>the</strong>se projects cover arange <strong>of</strong> issues <strong>of</strong>ten, though not exclusively,under <strong>the</strong> Justice and Home Affairs banner (<strong>the</strong>rehave, for <strong>in</strong>stance, been a number <strong>of</strong> LisbonAgenda <strong>the</strong>med projects). Examples <strong>of</strong> pastprojects <strong>in</strong>clude Tackl<strong>in</strong>g Corruption at Regionaland Central Level with Transparency InternationalPrague, Commercial Judges visits to UK, orAdvice to <strong>Czech</strong> M<strong>in</strong>istries on Adm<strong>in</strong>ister<strong>in</strong>gMonika TomíčkováProject OfficerStructural and Cohesion Funds. Monika workswith <strong>Czech</strong> <strong>in</strong>stitutions and non-governmentalorganisations <strong>in</strong> order to def<strong>in</strong>e and developproject ideas, while ensur<strong>in</strong>g that <strong>the</strong>y fit <strong>the</strong> Embassy’s and <strong>the</strong> FCO’sobjectives, and monitor<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> projects’ progress and evaluat<strong>in</strong>g<strong>the</strong>ir impact.
