Culinary arts and culture. The main part of <strong>the</strong> course deals with cultural<br />
influences, e.g. with respect to religion and customs on <strong>the</strong> culinary habits of<br />
nations and communities and how this impacts upon <strong>the</strong> operations of tourist<br />
services.<br />
Intercultural workshop (in preparation) From 2006 a regular workshop<br />
course for third year students on intercultural communication is envisaged.<br />
The Tourism Faculty offers two additional culture-related courses, which<br />
are more inward looking and deals with <strong>the</strong> Icelandic culture and tourism.<br />
A seminar on culture and tourism focuses on <strong>the</strong> dynamic between cultures,<br />
such as <strong>the</strong> relationship of Icelandic culture to o<strong>the</strong>r cultures as manifested<br />
through cultural influences such as immigration, emigration and tourism as<br />
well as cultural exchange in commerce, arts and sciences.<br />
2.3.8 Continuing Education - University of Iceland<br />
Foreign trade, economic geography and business procedures is a course in<br />
Marketing and exporting studies programme. In <strong>the</strong> course <strong>the</strong> students<br />
study regions, which are important in international business and learn about<br />
<strong>the</strong> economic, politic and cultural factors that influence business across<br />
borders.<br />
Continuing Education offers a diverse course for college teachers who will<br />
teach Icelandic as a second language. The course is intended to make <strong>the</strong><br />
teachers more aware of diverse ways in assessment, making curriculum and<br />
cross-cultural teaching having integration of subjects in mind.<br />
Teaching immigrants in colleges is a course for college teachers as well as<br />
head masters (Continuing Education, 2005).<br />
2.3.9 Colleges – Questionnaire to language teachers<br />
A questionnaire was sent by e-mail to all language teachers in 28 colleges in<br />
Iceland, total of 273 teachers: 110 English teachers, 61 Danish teachers, 49<br />
German teachers, 31 French teachers, 17 Spanish teachers, 2 Italian teachers<br />
and 1 Russian teacher.<br />
The gender division of <strong>the</strong> teachers was 71 male and 202 female.<br />
