وَال َّذِینَ‏ یَنقُضُونَ‏ عَهْدَ‏ اللّهِ‏ مِن بَعْدِ‏ مِيثَاقِهِ‏ وَیَقْطَعُونَ‏ مَآ أَمَرَ‏ اللّهُ‏بِهِ‏ أَن یُوصَلَ‏ وَیُفْسِدُونَ‏ فِي الأَرْضِ‏ أُوْلَئِكَ‏ لَهُمُ‏ الل َّعْنَةُ‏ وَلَهُمْ‏سُوءُ‏ الد َّارِ‏And those who break the covenant <strong>of</strong> <strong>Al</strong>lah, afterits ratification, and sever that which <strong>Al</strong>lah hascommanded <strong>to</strong> be joined, and work mischief inthe land, on them is the curse, and for them isthe unhappy (evil) home (i.e. Hell). (13:25)"Ad-Dahhak said that, أَوْفُواْ‏ بِالْعُقُودِ‏ (Fulfill your obligations),"Refers <strong>to</strong> what <strong>Al</strong>lah has permitted and what Hehas prohibited. <strong>Al</strong>lah has taken the covenant fromthose who proclaim their faith in the Prophet andthe Book <strong>to</strong> fulfill the obligations that He hasordered for them in the permissible and theimpermissible.''Explaining the Lawful and the Unlawful Beasts<strong>Al</strong>lah said,5أُحِل َّتْ‏ لَكُم بَهِيمَةُ‏ الأَنْعَامِ‏Lawful <strong>to</strong> you (for food) are all the beasts <strong>of</strong> cattle,camels, cows and sheep, as <strong>Al</strong>-Hasan, Qatadahand several others stated.Ibn Jarir said that this Tafsir conforms <strong>to</strong> the meaning <strong>of</strong>(`beasts <strong>of</strong> cattle') that the Arabs had.We should mention that Ibn Umar, Ibn Abbas and othersrelied on this Ayah as evidence <strong>to</strong> allow eating the meat<strong>of</strong> the fetus if it is found dead in the belly <strong>of</strong> itsslaughtered mother.<strong>The</strong>re is a Hadith <strong>to</strong> the same effect collected in theSunan <strong>of</strong> Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah andnarrated by Abu Sa`id who said,"We asked, `O Messenger <strong>of</strong> <strong>Al</strong>lah! <strong>When</strong> weslaughter a camel, cow or sheep, we sometimes......
