New Faculty Orientation Handbook
Nursing Program
The Saddleback College Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program was
established in 1971 and has an outstanding reputation in the health care
community. The program is accredited by the National League for Nursing and
the Board of Registered Nursing. Graduates of the program are eligible to take
the State Board licensure exam for Registered Nurses. The pass rate for our
graduates is consistently above the state and national average. Graduates of the
program have successfully been employed in a variety of nursing positions and
many transfer into upper degree nursing programs.
Saddleback College Nursing Program Welcomes You
This handbook has been prepared to assist you in becoming part of the faculty at
Saddleback College. Your mentor and/or lead teacher will assist you with
additional questions you may have. You will also be given an ADN nursing
student handbook to refer to specific policies and procedures outlined in this
handbook.
I would ask that you pay close attention to the clinical orientation, section IX. It
includes detailed instructions concerning expectations, both student and faculty,
for clinical teaching. I know this will be valuable information as you begin
teaching. In addition, the appendix cites various faculty development CDs and
Web sites to increase your comfort and assist you in teaching/learning strategies.
We are pleased that you have chosen to work with us at Saddleback College.
Please do not hesitate to ask questions and seek our assistance.
Best regards,
Tammy Rice
Assistant Dean, Health Sciences and Human Services
