Mechanical testsTests subject components to torques and forces that may occur inpractice. A spring-operated impact hammer is used to test themechanical strength of components and a vibration rig to replicateexterior windage.IP testsFor an IP65 classification (dust-tight and jetproof) luminaires must resistingress of dust with a particle size down to 1 micron and resist ingressof water from a hose or jet pressure of 30KN/m². Luminaires areswitched on during testing and allowed to reach their normal operatingtemperature as it needs to be established whether the water or dust isdrawn in when the pressure drops.Electrical testsA safety requirement is that no live parts should be accidentallytouched. This is checked by using a standard test finger. Alsoluminaires must satisfy requirements such as minimum creepagedistances across the surface of insulating materials, and minimumclearance distances between live parts and earth or touchable metalparts. Luminaires must pass high-voltage flash tests and insulationresistance tests in humid conditions.Thermal testsA standard draught-free room is usually used for luminaire temperaturemeasurement. The components inside the luminaire are fitted with manythermocouples and it is operated under specific conditions until thetemperatures indicated by these thermocouples are stable.Environmental testsLuminaires are subjected to long-term environmental testing andinstalled outdoors so the effect of weathering can be seen. UVdegradation tests (discharge rig) and salt spray test chambers areemployed for accelerated corrosion testing. The latter consists of acontrolled temperature environment in which corrosive mist, usuallybased on sodium chloride, is produced. Likewise chemical and stresscrazing tests are conducted with samples being immersed orsuspended above various chemicals.13

Oncefitted the toggles are designed sothey do not come adrift from thecanopy and it's almost impossibleto lose them, a great advantageduring installation or maintenance.3. Fit the Quick-fix brackets ontothe ceiling.4. Snap the canopy into the Quick-fixbrackets, it will easily click into place.5. Prepare the luminaire for theelectrical connection, for easyinstallation hinge the gear tray onthe gear tray clips, insert cablesthrough the sealing grommet andattach to the plug-in terminal block.6. Align the gear tray with thestainless steel gear clips.7. Snap the gear tray into place.8. This may be a corrosive element in the atmosphere oreven cleaning agents used in the location.
