The Framework Program of <strong>the</strong> European Union for R&DThis is <strong>the</strong> biggest program <strong>in</strong> global terms for scientific and<strong>in</strong>dustrial cooperation. ISERD is <strong>the</strong> adm<strong>in</strong>istrative bodyestablished by <strong>the</strong> Government of Israel to promote <strong>the</strong>participation of Israeli entities <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> framework program.The current program - <strong>the</strong> seventh, is built from four ma<strong>in</strong>programs, which are engaged <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>cipal components ofEuropean R&D and which are detailed on <strong>the</strong> Adm<strong>in</strong>istration'sWebsite. Participation <strong>in</strong> this program opens <strong>the</strong> door to Israelientities to strategic <strong>in</strong>tergration <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> research, developmentand market<strong>in</strong>g strategy <strong>in</strong> Europe. The criteria for <strong>the</strong> evaluationof a project seek<strong>in</strong>g to participate <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> framework programare: scientific and technological excellence, benefit, andquality of <strong>the</strong> consortium. Generic Technological Development and transfer ofknow-how from Academia to Industry.5.1. Generic Technology R&D (GTRD) - "Magnet"-The "Magnet" Program operates with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> office of <strong>the</strong> ChiefScientist with <strong>the</strong> aim of re<strong>in</strong>forc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> long term competitivetechnological advantage of <strong>in</strong>dustry <strong>in</strong> Israel by support<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>development of generic technology <strong>in</strong>frastructures that will actas a platform for <strong>the</strong> development of future products.Technological <strong>in</strong>frastructure development is based oncollaboration between a number of <strong>in</strong>dustrial corporations anduniversity research <strong>in</strong>stitutes which expresses itself <strong>in</strong> terms ofjo<strong>in</strong>t activity as part of a consortium or association of <strong>the</strong> users.The amount of <strong>the</strong> grant provided <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> GTRD framework toan <strong>in</strong>dustrial manufactur<strong>in</strong>g company is 66%, and up to 80% to<strong>the</strong> Research Institute.5.2. "Magneton" -Aim of <strong>the</strong> program is <strong>the</strong> encouragement of a transfer oftechnologies from academia to <strong>in</strong>dustry, <strong>in</strong> order to exploit <strong>the</strong>achievements of academic research <strong>in</strong> an <strong>in</strong>dustrial application,and for development of a product possess<strong>in</strong>g economicpotential. The program is based on dual collaboration between<strong>the</strong> academic research group and <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustrial manufactur<strong>in</strong>gcompany - and this by way of an aid grant for a project <strong>in</strong>order to prove its feasibility, it be<strong>in</strong>g a work<strong>in</strong>g program of <strong>the</strong>partners <strong>in</strong> terms of technological or system-related feasibilityfor cont<strong>in</strong>uation of product development <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry and tofacilitate an orderly transfer of technology from <strong>the</strong> researchbody to <strong>in</strong>dustry.
