The speedshoots all had props to contendwith, from opening closet doorsand shooting through hangingclothing, to opening and keepingopen window blinds, toholding your "significant other"out of the way as you engagedthe targets, to blinding one opponentwith a glass of water inthe face while you engaged himand his associates.The field courses includedthe aforementioned airplanerescue stage where you had todiscern the terrorists inside theplane from the passengers (thepassengers were blindfolded,that was the only difference).To get in the plane you had toopen the airplane door by engaginga popper through a sixinchopening in armor-platesteel. We also had a 23-roundall steel (popper) field course,which featured the world'ssmallest shooting box (youstarted from it but it was onlyone foot wide). There also wasa shoot-what-you-can-seewhen-you-can-see-itstage, butit was hard to see the targetsbehind all of the walls andfences. In short, we tried to givethe competitors a wide varietyof shooting challenges to solve.We had no standards, as wefeel that standards are increasinglyirrelevant to "practicalshooting." We also avoidedshooter "traps;" we feel thatcourse designers shouldn't belooking to fool shooters intomalting mistakes. Just put thetargets out there and let theshooters solve the challenges intheir own way! Not everyoneliked every stage, of course, butyou can't please everyone.To further our goal of maximumshooter enjoyment, wehad two side matches, rifle andshotgun. The shotgun matchconsisted of three stages, twospeed shoots and one fieldcourse. It was all steel, as thematch was held on the skeetfields which do not have a backstopberm. The field course didfeature three clay birds whichwere activated by knockingdown Pepper poppers.The rifle match was held atQuantico Marine Base on theirmulti-million-dollar computerizedcourse. This featured targetsthat popped up, and someof them moved.
