Kier Hill tries some difficult barricade shooting as Matt Maslonek supervises theaction.second year of using this range, one of only a few in the country!Everyone who has shot on thisrange has loved it. We allowedfun runs after shooting forscore, so a lot of ammo wasthrown downrange here.We also tried to make thematch a social event with a freepizza party on Friday night anda chicken and pork barbecue onSaturday night. We gave awaya gun to a shooter picked atrandom at each of these events. There never seem to be enoughopportunities to socialize withfellow shooters, and the chanceto eat (and drink) with peopleyou like and win a gun is toogood to miss. We did the samething last year and everyoneseems to enjoy it.We did do something differentthis year, handing out questionnairesto the shooters andasking them a variety of questionsabout the match and theirpreferences. We got many ofthem back and plan to use theresponses to improve nextyear's match. From the manycompliments we received, however,we don't have much improvingto do.Some of the best suggestionswere: "Lackeys at each stage toclean and load magazines,""dancing girls next year," and"allow golden retrievers in theclubhouse." We'll work on it,folks!Been therm Done that. With over I 00 years of combined competitiveshooting experience, nearly 200years of combined reloading experience.and over 225 years of combined huntingexperience. our Ballistic Technicianshave been there and done that. The High Woman wasSheila Brey. Congratulations toall of the winners! We had 286 shooters competein the match, from nineGrand Masters to shooters whohad just joined USPSA and hadnot shot in enough matches toreceive their classification. That is a tough mix to satisfy, but every comment we received, either written or verbal, waspositive. We think the successof any match lies in the satisfactionof the competitors. Asplanners you do the best job youcan, but the match really belongsto the shooters. If ourmatch was a success, and Ithink it was, then the creditgoes to everyone from the topfinisher to the last place competitor,to the volunteers whojust helped tape targets and resetthe steel. We plan to have the 1997Area 8 Match again atFredericksburg, May 22nd-25th, 1997 (Memorial DayWeekend). We will keep thesame half-day format, and hopeto have the side-matches andother events to keep you entertained.Maybe we will add a fewthings, like a group discussionwith Andy Hollar. I'm sureAndy will enjoy that! (Now Iknow he won't come.) Seriously,we will work as hard as ever tobring you another match toshoot and enjoy, and we willwork on your suggestions.
