Now Kick Start Compatible!S&S® SUPER STOCK® IGNITIONSSince the Super Stock ignition modules were introducedlast year, some of our customers let us know that theywanted to kick start our V96, V113 and V124 engines.Now these have got to be some mighty kickers! But OK,if you want to. . . in response to their requests, we haveupdated our Super Stock modules and our diagnosticsoftware to give S&S dealers the ability to switch fromelectric to kick start modes.KICK IT!Originally, only the modules intended for S&S engines for shovelheadmodels were set up for kick start. This means that the ignition fires onthe first engine revolution. <strong>The</strong> rest of the modules were set up forelectric starters. In the electric start mode, the ignition does not startto fire until the third engine revolution. This allows the starter to get theengine turning before it fires, to reduce the likelihood of the enginebackfiring and damaging the starter or the starter gears. Kick startinga bike with the ignition set to the electric start mode is very difficult,and aside from the opportunity for an aerobic workout, does not yieldgood results.<strong>The</strong> new updated modules can be set to kick start or electric start modeby an S&S dealer using the Super Stock diagnostic cable and software.In addition, the electric start mode allows the pre-ignition cranking tobe set anywhere from 1 to 4 engine revolutions. This new functionalityis only available with the new modules. Existing modules cannot beupdated.YOU STILL CAN’T FIDDLE WITH IT!<strong>The</strong> basic idea of a pre-programmed ignition for each engine stays thesame. You don’t need to adjust anything. We’ve already done it for you.<strong>The</strong> ignition curves programmed into each ignition unit are customtailored for a specific S&S engine. In addition to custom tailored curves,the module makes use of a vacuum operated electrical switch (VOES)to adjust timing under load or heavy acceleration to avoid detonationor knock. See the chart to find the S&S Super Stock ignition system foryour application.S&S billet generator style electronictimer fits S&S and stock generatorstyle cases and allows the useof S&S Super Stock or other latestyle electronic ignition systems.Requires reverse timing gears foruse in generator style engines.55-1269S&S Super Stock ignition modules have been updated with additionaldiagnostic data logging and the ability to select either kick start orelectric start mode on all modules. All module kits now include a VOESfitting for engines that do not have a fitting in the manifold, and a “T”fitting to make it easier to install the ignition.APPLICATIONS<strong>The</strong> S&S Super Stock ignition modules are primarily intendedfor complete S&S engines. With that in mind, they are wellsuited for existing S&S engines that were not sold withignition systems. In addition, the Super Stock ignition is alsoa good choice for use with S&S Sidewinder® kits and S&S HotSet Up Kits® that are of the same configuration as a completeS&S engine, that is the displacement, compression ratio, cam,and cylinder heads are identical.Generator style engines require reverse timer gears and aspecial timer, designed to accept an electronic ignition. S&Soffers a beautiful billet timer for this application.Keep in mind that the curves are preset for a specific S&Sengine, and that modules intended for one engine may notyield optimum results when used on another configuration.16 IgnitionsEmail us at sscust@sscycle.com
