FINAL DRAFTACTION 2: DECLARATION OF SEAWATER INTRUSIONIf the verification confirms that seawater intrusion has occurred within theSeaside Groundwater Basin, the Watermaster shall issue a Declaration ofSeawater Intrusion within 15 calendar days of verification.ACTION 3: NOTIFICATIONWithin 10 calendar days following the Watermaster’s Declaration of SeawaterIntrusion, all groundwater producers in the Seaside Groundwater Basin,MPWMD, and all other interested entities within the Seaside Groundwater Basinshall be formally notified. The Watermaster shall notify all parties that the SIRPcontingency actions have been triggered, and will identify the well(s) thattriggered the SIRP contingency actions.ACTION 4: PUMPING REDISTRIBUTION PLANThe pumping redistribution plan is designed to contain observed seawaterintrusion, and to protect production wells until a supplemental water supply isobtained. The pumping redistribution plan consists of the following eightactivities that will be implemented. Many of these activities should be appliediteratively.• Discontinue or substantially reduce pumping the Impacted Well(s). Ifseawater intrusion has been declared for a production well, pumping atthis well shall be discontinued or substantially reduced as soon aspossible, but no longer than 30 calendar days after the Declaration ofSeawater Intrusion. If seawater intrusion has been declared for onlymonitoring wells, this activity is unnecessary. All of the following activities shall be initiated within 90 calendar days after theDeclaration of Seawater Intrusion:• Identify At Risk Well(s) where seawater intrusion might occur. At RiskWells are production wells that have the potential to become impacted byseawater intrusion based on their proximity to the Impacted Well(s), localgroundwater gradients, and other conditions.Seawater Intrusion Response PlanNovember 19, 2008 - 16 -
