NGĀTI HAUĀ <strong>DEED</strong> <strong>OF</strong> <strong>SETTLEMENT</strong><strong>ATTACHMENTS</strong>3: RELATIONSHIP AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CROWN AND NGĀTI HAUĀ WITH RESPECT TOTE KAUWHANGANUI O MĀHUTA AND NGĀTI HAUĀ TAONGA24.10. to develop a process whereby Te Kauwhanganui taonga is identified andNgāti Hauā have the opportunity to acquire such taonga in accordance withprocess set out in section 25 of the Public Records Act 2005; and24.11. to develop a process to provide information to Ngāti Hauā on the type ofresearch being conducted when Te Kauwhanganui taonga is being accessed.Monitoring delivery of service:24.12. to develop processes to monitor the effectiveness of the relationship with andservices to Te Kauwhanganui Trustees and Ngāti Hauā in achieving outputsand outcomes mutually agreed in Te Kauwhanganui work plans.Analysis and reporting:24.13. to receive and address a list of key questions prepared and prioritised byTe Kauwhanganui Trustees and Ngāti Hauā to ask regularly in written reportsto the Te Kauwhanganui Trustees and Ngāti Hauā which will help ArchivesNew Zealand achieve outcomes mutually agreed in the work plans.Advice for public offices and local authorities on access to Te Kauwhanganui taonga:24.14. to facilitate and support, where requested, the Te Kauwhanganui Trusteesand Ngāti Hauā to liaise with public offices and local authorities on bestpractice in making access decisions for access to Te Kauwhanganui taongaheld at public archives and local authority archives.Work Plan Topics Particular to Te Papa Tongarewa25. Te Papa Tongarewa will work with the Te Kauwhanganui Trustees and Ngāti Hauā inrelation to the work plan topics set out in this section consistently with the principle ofMana Taonga which:25.1. recognises the relationships between iwi, hapū and whānau with their taonga;and25.2. seeks the input of communities for guidance on how their taonga should bemanaged, cared for, exhibited, or represented and gives all people who havetaonga in Te Papa Tongarewa’s collections a special connection to the marae- Rongomaraeroa; and25.3. shapes and informs many of the museum’s activities and provides guidancefor staff in the research, care, and management of taonga.Collaborative Care and Management of Taonga:25.4. to maintain an inventory of Te Kauwhanganui and Ngāti Hauā taonga held atTe Papa Tongarewa;25.5. to advise, inform and work with the Te Kauwhanganui Trustees and NgātiHauā where practicable on the development of processes to record whatmaterial relating to Te Kauwhanganui is being accessed from the collectionsof Te Papa Tongarewa;Page 47
