On offer will be generousportions of tasty, quality food served withunrivalled care and attention to detail.”Midstream Team Takes on the World Robot OlympiadOn 4 September, Sybrand Botes and Dehan Lamprechtsfrom Midstream College, jo<strong>in</strong>ed forces with ClydeRoux (Cornwall Hill College) <strong>in</strong> the primary school categoryof the SA Robotics Olympiad, the local leg ofthe World Robot Olympiad (WRO) for 2010. The WROis a global robotics competition aimed at broaden<strong>in</strong>gyoung people’s application of science and technologythrough robotic systems, and encourag<strong>in</strong>g them <strong>in</strong> thefields of science, eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>in</strong>novation.In the primary school category, teams had to assemblerobots from unmodified LEGO pieces and limitedelectronic components, as well as programme themwith<strong>in</strong> a time limit. The robots then had to negotiatethe challeng<strong>in</strong>g sequence of tasks around a course,with the fastest robot to f<strong>in</strong>ish all tasks successfully,secur<strong>in</strong>g a w<strong>in</strong>. Sybrand, Dehan and Clyde overcomemany challenges and put their creativity, problemsolv<strong>in</strong>gand co-operation skills to good use <strong>in</strong> achiev<strong>in</strong>ga 3rd place on the day. Their eagerness to furthertheir horizons will surely serve them well <strong>in</strong> time tocome.
