2013 Program of Events - Italy Culture Month

Whereas: Italian Heritage and Culture Monthis an important event in The Bronx, one that hasbeen celebrated for decades with special events,exhibits, lectures and other commemoration’sof not only Italy’s history and culture, but thecontributions of Italian-Americans to the growthand development of The Bronx; and,Whereas:2013 is being celebrated as “TheYear of Italian Culture in the United States,” andthe Bronx has much to celebrate in that regard.From the construction of many of our borough’slandmarks, to the great Italian food on ArthurAvenue, to serving as the home of the legendarycomposer Arturo Toscanini and everywhere inbetween—The Bronx is steeped in Italian andItalian-American culture; and,Whereas:I once again extend my gratitude andappreciation to the Italian Heritage and CultureCommittee of New York and its dedicated membersfor keeping alive the rich tradition and legacy ofItalian culture, not just here in The Bronx but allover the City of New York.Now, therefore, I, Ruben Diaz Jr., President of theBorough of The Bronx, pay tribute to our Italian-American community and the cultural, political,42
