2013 Program of Events - Italy Culture Month

Whereas, in recognition of Italian-AmericanHeritage and Culture Month, and withBrooklyn being home to everyone from everywhereand boasting the largest population of Italian-Americans if we include our southwestern suburb ofStaten Island, it is most fitting that we Brooklynitestake note of the important cultural, political,educational, and social aspects of Italian heritageand culture, from Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, toGalileo, the father of modern astronomy, to MariaMontessori, the innovative educator, and all thosein between and after who have greatly enriched thequality of life in our borough, our nation, and theworld; andWhereas, Brooklyn joins in the New York Citywidecelebration of the 37 th Annual ItalianHeritage and Culture Month—whose theme this yearis “2013: The Year of Italian Culture in the UnitedStates,” to pay tribute to the vibrant Italian heritagethat is reflected throughout our great borough, fromits unsurpassed Italian cuisine to all areas of publicservice, and to recognize those distinguished citizensof Italian descent who have made outstandingcontributions to the betterment of our borough, state,and nation; andWhereas, on behalf of all Brooklynites, I saluteand commend President and Chairman Cav.Uff.
