Community ProfilesRegion 3 - Metro ValleyCounties: Cabell, Kanawha, Mason, PutnamProfileTwo main cities define this metropolitan region complete with cultural, economic, and educational diversity. A river city along theKanawha, Charleston is the state capital; further to the west is the river city of Huntington, situate along the Ohio. A small river town isPoint Pleasant honoring its most famous “resident” with a seven-foot statue of Mothman, the legacy of which is now globallyrecognized from Richard Gere’s “The Mothman Prophecies”. River traffic along the Kanawha and through Charleston is filled withboth sternwheelers and coal barges. The State Capitol, an architectural gem by Gilbert Cass, boasts a 23.5 karat gold leaf dome, which, at 293 feet, is higher than the U.S. Capitol. Stunning mansions and a heavily wooded park perch overlooking the river on oneside, while adjacent to the Capitol complex on the other side is a neighborhood of historic homes and churches. Major industrialcomplexes line the rivers throughout this region. Huntington offers the century-old Camden Park amusement park with a pair ofhistoric roller coasters and the futuristic East Huntington Bridge that looks like a harp on its side. Huntington also has a downtownpark with spectacular rose gardens and the Huntington Museum with Bauhaus buildings and a renowned firearms collection. Thismetro region benefits from a large community of film and television professionals as well as numerous hotels, vendors, and dozensof restaurants ready to cater to the needs of the film and television industries.Connector Cities from Charleston: Lexington-175 miles; Columbus-213 miles; Pittsburgh-228 miles30
