– small but lively<br />
Vevelstad may be one of the smallest municipalities in Norway,<br />
but visitors have plenty of opportunity for rewarding experiences.<br />
Vevelstad has been richly blessed with beautiful scenery – in<br />
fact over half the municipality is part of Lomsdal-Visten National<br />
Park. Vevelstad is known for excellent hiking and offers good<br />
hunting and fishing.<br />

vevelstad CHurCH<br />
This church, erected in 1796 and expanded in 1871, has a beautiful altarpiece<br />
painted by Italian artist Joseph Pisani in the year the church was built. Pisani<br />
also made the mural on mounted paper behind the altarpiece. Guided tours<br />

<strong>HelGeland</strong> museum vevelstad – a folk museum<br />
The folk museum at Vevelstad comprises ten buildings and an extensive collection<br />
of utilitarian objects from the district. Children will enjoy playing in<br />
the museum’s miniature barn. Open: 17 June – 17 August, 10am–4pm (closed<br />
Mondays). Guided tours by appointment with Helgeland Museum Vevelstad,<br />

Handelsstedet forvik<br />
Forvik was established in 1792, making it one of the oldest trading posts in<br />
northern Norway. Today Forvik is still a communications hub for southern<br />
Helgeland, and offers accommodation, restaurants and a country store with<br />

in diameter, ground into the mountainside.<br />
petroGlypHs<br />
In Vitnesdalen are 4000-year-old petroglyphs of reindeer and other animals,<br />

esøya, Hamnsundet<br />
Visitors can explore the old soapstone quarry, whose ancient runes, signatures<br />
and markings date back almost a thousand years, to the period just<br />

lomsdal-visten national park<br />
This magnificent national park is sure to enchant and inspire you to explore<br />
its beauty on foot. Lomsdal-Visten National Park is both lush and barren, as<br />
well as tranquil and dramatic. Bring a tent, map and compass, and perhaps<br />
