Hattfjelldal<br />
– The highlander realm<br />
This municipality, one of Norway’s largest, owes its name to the<br />
distinctive mountaintop Hatten (the Hat). Hattfjelldal is known<br />
for its time-honoured craft traditions, traditional dance, skilled<br />
biathlon athletes, and its Sami culture. The main population centres<br />
are Susendal and Varntresk.<br />

lensmannsGården – a sHeriff’s farm<br />
This exciting house, which is now a museum, is of cultural and historic significance.<br />
Photographs, objects and written documents show the lifestyle of the local<br />

sami Cultural Centre (sijti jarnGe)<br />
At the Sami Cultural Centre you have the opportunity of gaining insight into the<br />
culture and way of life of the indigenous people of the Arctic. There are several exhibitions,<br />

“tHe elf Castle” – artsCape nordland<br />
This sculpture by Icelandic artist Hreinn Fridfinnsson, which stands in the heart of<br />
the village, is Hattfjelldal’s contribution to Artscape Nordland.<br />
Hattfjelldal CHurCH<br />
The church was built in 1868. Ole Tobias Olsen, sometimes referred to as the man<br />
behind the Nordland Railway, served as vicar here for over 20 years. A monument<br />
to him stands near the church. Today the vicarage is used for cultural exhibitions,<br />
with a special focus on women’s historical role. For further information, please<br />

svenskvoll farm<br />
This farm museum is a gem, comprising a farmhouse, storehouse, baking hut,<br />
blacksmith’s shop and carpenter’s workshop. Artefacts date from the 1870s to<br />
1972, when the last owner of the farm moved out. Guided tours on request, tel.<br />

is situated at Susendal, about 27 km from Hattfjelldal. The mountain farm Svenskvollsetra<br />
is situated in the hills a short walk from the farm.<br />
a Hike to mount Hatten<br />
Hatten (1128 m) is a mountain peak that towers majestically over the nearby scenic<br />
landscape. A well-marked trail leads to the summit, through easily accessible<br />
terrain. From the summit you have a magnificent view of the village and surrounding<br />

børGefjell national park<br />
Børgefjell is one of Norway’s oldest and largest national parks, covering an area<br />
of 1447 km 2 . NB: There are no marked trails or DNT lodges in this national park.<br />
Børgefjell National Park is a true mountain wilderness – desolate and beautiful –<br />
which is best appreciated by experienced hikers, although the terrain itself is easy<br />
enough. Børgefjell offers excellent trout fishing, as well as good small game and<br />
grouse hunting. There are a few open mountain huts and cabins that may be rented.<br />

fisHinG<br />
The Municipality of Hattfjelldal has at least one fishing lake per inhabitant – so<br />
there are plenty of good destinations to choose from. A comprehensive overview<br />

Information, tel. +47 75 18 40 05. The Børgefjell mountains are also known as<br />
a paradise for recreational fishing, with many good fishing lakes.<br />
Gryteselv mountain farm<br />
Gryteself Fjellgård is an organic farm situated with a beautiful view of the mountains<br />
and forest. The surrounding area offers excellent hiking, good fishing lakes,<br />
overnight accommodation and good food. Situated along Highway Rv73, about 10<br />
