The BBC Big Screens
on Market Place, Derby
and Humberstone Gate,
Leicester have been
transformed into Live
Sites, making them the
place to go to gather and
watch live coverage of the
London 2012 Olympic
and Paralympic Games.
The Opening and Closing
Ceremonies will be among
the highlights shown
alongside coverage of the
live sport, which during
Olympic fortnight will be
from 7am to 11pm each day.
The Live Sites will also show
a range of arts events, both
locally and nationally, that
are part of the Cultural
Olympiad such as Radio
1’s Hackney Weekend 2012
and short films made
as part of Film Nation.

Paralympic
Flame
Celebration
On Saturday 25 August,
Leicester plays host to
the Paralympic Flame
– one of 34 locations
nationally to host a Flame
Celebration as part of the
Paralympic Torch Relay.
To celebrate the arrival
of the Paralympic Flame
in the city, a vibrant daylong
Festival around the
Big Screen offers you
the chance to take part
in and watch a variety of
Paralympic displays and
taster sessions in fencing,
football, wheelchair
basketball, rugby and lots
more. There will also be
live music and dance acts
from local performers.

Golden
Fables 2012
Golden Fables 2012 forges
a unique collaboration
between world-acclaimed
artists such as Gillian
Clarke, Liz Lochhead,
Gabriel Prokofiev and
the Desmond & Leah
Tutu Peace Choir to
create a unique festival
performance inspired by
Lincolnshire’s cultural
heritage and by themes
associated with rural life
in 21st century Britain,
directed by Susannah
Tresilian and produced
by Cultural Solutions.
The performance
will combine poetry,
spoken word, specially
commissioned music,
100-year-old film material,
a choir and scenes from
a new graphic novel.
The SO Festival
performance will be shown
as a film at village halls
and community centres
across Lincolnshire.
