Live Sites<br />

The BBC Big Screens<br />

on Market Place, Derby<br />

and Humberstone Gate,<br />

Leicester have been<br />

transformed into Live<br />

Sites, making them the<br />

place to go to gather and<br />

watch live coverage of the<br />

London 2012 Olympic<br />

and Paralympic Games.<br />

The Opening and Closing<br />

Ceremonies will be among<br />

the highlights shown<br />

alongside coverage of the<br />

live sport, which during<br />

Olympic fortnight will be<br />

from 7am to 11pm each day.<br />

The Live Sites will also show<br />

a range of arts events, both<br />

locally and nationally, that<br />

are part of the <strong>Cultural</strong><br />

<strong>Olympiad</strong> such as Radio<br />

1’s Hackney Weekend 2012<br />

and short films made<br />

as part of Film Nation.<br />

Paralympic<br />

Flame<br />

Celebration<br />

On Saturday 25 August,<br />

Leicester plays host to<br />

the Paralympic Flame<br />

– one of 34 locations<br />

nationally to host a Flame<br />

Celebration as part of the<br />

Paralympic Torch Relay.<br />

To celebrate the arrival<br />

of the Paralympic Flame<br />

in the city, a vibrant daylong<br />

Festival around the<br />

Big Screen offers you<br />

the chance to take part<br />

in and watch a variety of<br />

Paralympic displays and<br />

taster sessions in fencing,<br />

football, wheelchair<br />

basketball, rugby and lots<br />

more. There will also be<br />

live music and dance acts<br />

from local performers.<br />

Golden<br />

Fables 2012<br />

Golden Fables 2012 forges<br />

a unique collaboration<br />

between world-acclaimed<br />

artists such as Gillian<br />

Clarke, Liz Lochhead,<br />

Gabriel Prokofiev and<br />

the Desmond & Leah<br />

Tutu Peace Choir to<br />

create a unique festival<br />

performance inspired by<br />

Lincolnshire’s cultural<br />

heritage and by themes<br />

associated with rural life<br />

in 21st century Britain,<br />

directed by Susannah<br />

Tresilian and produced<br />

by <strong>Cultural</strong> Solutions.<br />

The performance<br />

will combine poetry,<br />

spoken word, specially<br />

commissioned music,<br />

100-year-old film material,<br />

a choir and scenes from<br />

a new graphic novel.<br />

The SO Festival<br />

performance will be shown<br />

as a film at village halls<br />

and community centres<br />

across Lincolnshire.<br />
