Mena,Silvera & Gené (Silvera-Simón et al. 2009, <strong>and</strong>R. gondwanamycetis Mar<strong>in</strong>c., M.J. W<strong>in</strong>gf. &Crous (Mar<strong>in</strong>cowitz et al. 2008).Dur<strong>in</strong>g an expedition <strong>in</strong> February 2010through the protected a<strong>re</strong>as of Veracruz State,Mexico, a conspicuous fungus from the genus<strong>Repetophragma</strong> was collected on decay<strong>in</strong>gwood. A specimen collected <strong>in</strong> a tropical fo<strong>re</strong>st<strong>in</strong> southern Venezuela dur<strong>in</strong>g 2005 proved tobe the same fungus. These specimens showeddiffe<strong>re</strong>nces from p<strong>re</strong>viously described <strong>taxa</strong> <strong>and</strong>a<strong>re</strong> he<strong>re</strong><strong>in</strong> described <strong>and</strong> illustrated as a <strong>new</strong><strong>species</strong> of <strong>Repetophragma</strong>.Materials <strong>and</strong> methodsDur<strong>in</strong>g February 2010 around 80 samplesof microfungi we<strong>re</strong> collected <strong>in</strong> “Aguita Fria”,Veracruz, Mexico (Fig. 21). Individual collectionswe<strong>re</strong> placed <strong>in</strong> paper bags, taken to thelaboratory, <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>cubated at 25°C <strong>in</strong> Petridishes placed <strong>in</strong> a moist chamber composed ofplastic conta<strong>in</strong>ers (50 L capacity) with 200 mLof sterile water plus 2 mL of glycerol, <strong>and</strong>exam<strong>in</strong>ed at <strong>re</strong>gular <strong>in</strong>tervals for the p<strong>re</strong>senceof microfungi. Aeration was supplied by open<strong>in</strong>gthe conta<strong>in</strong>ers for 5 to 10 m<strong>in</strong>utes at 45m<strong>in</strong>utes <strong>in</strong>tervals dur<strong>in</strong>g a week. Mounts we<strong>re</strong>p<strong>re</strong>pa<strong>re</strong>d <strong>in</strong> polyv<strong>in</strong>yl alcohol-glycerol (8.0 g <strong>in</strong>100 mL of water, plus 5 mL of glycerol) <strong>and</strong>measu<strong>re</strong>ments made at a magnification of×1000. The same methodology was followedfor specimens collected dur<strong>in</strong>g an expedition <strong>in</strong>April 2005 to Luepa, Gran Sabana a<strong>re</strong>a,Canaima National Park, as part of a series ofexpeditions to collect wood decompos<strong>in</strong>g fungi<strong>in</strong> a tropical fo<strong>re</strong>st <strong>in</strong> southern Venezuela.Micrographs we<strong>re</strong> obta<strong>in</strong>ed with a ZeissAxioskop 40 microscope <strong>and</strong> a Leitz Dialux 20EB microscope. Holotype material is deposited<strong>in</strong> the Herbarium of the “Instituto de EcologíaA.C., Xalapa (XAL) <strong>and</strong> a paratype at HerbarioNacional de Venezuela <strong>in</strong> Caracas (VEN).Taxonomy<strong>Repetophragma</strong> paracamb<strong>re</strong>nse R.F.
