the inspector observes carbon monoxide detectors andsignage installed in accordance with the provisions of248 CMR 5.08(2)(a)1 through 4.(b) EXEMPTIONS: The following equipment is exemptfrom 248 CMR 5.08(2)(a)1 through 4:1. The equipment listed in Chapter 10 entitled “EquipmentNot Required To Be Vented” in the most currentedition of NFPA 54 as adopted by the board; and2. Product Approved side wall horizontally ventedgas fueled equipment installed in a room or structureseparate from the dwelling, building or structure used inwhole or in part for residential purposes.(c) MANUFACTURER REQUIREMENTS - GASEQUIPMENT VENTING SYSTEM PROVIDED.When the manufacturer of Product Approved side wallhorizontally vented gas equipment provides a ventingsystem design or venting system components with theequipment, the instructions provided by the manufacturerfor installation of the equipment and the ventingsystem shall include:1. Detailed instructions for the installation of the ventingsystem design or the venting system components;and2. A complete parts list for the venting system design orventing system.(d) MANUFACTURER REQUIREMENTS - GASEQUIPMENT VENTING SYSTEM NOT PROVIDED.When the manufacturer of a Product Approved sidewall horizontally vented gas fueled equipment does notprovide the parts for venting the flue gasses, but identifies“special venting systems”, the following requirementsshall be satisfied by the manufacturer:1. The referenced “special venting system” instructionsshall be included with the appliance or equipmentinstallation instructions; and2. The “special venting systems” shall be ProductApproved by the Board, and the instructions for thatsystem shall include a parts list and detailed installationinstructions.(e) A copy of all installation instructions for all ProductApproved side wall horizontally vented gas fueledequipment, all venting instructions, all parts lists forventing instructions, and/or all venting design instructionsshall remain with the appliance or equipment atthe completion of the installation.D. Separate Horizontal Venting System. SeeFigures 3, 4 and 5.1. Vent Piping –a. Do not exceed maximum vent/air intakelengths. Refer to Table 1.b. Recommended horizontal installation consistsof vent being sloped down ¼ inch per foottoward boiler.c. Use appropriate designed thimbles whenpassing through combustible walls (thimbleuse optional for noncombustible walls). Insertthimble through wall from outside. Secureoutside flange to wall with nails or screws, andseal ID, OD and vent holes with sealantmaterial. Install inside flange to inside wall,secure with nails or screws, and seal withsealant material.d. For noncombustible wall application whenthimble is not used, size opening such that bellwith locking band attached cannot passthrough.e. Join vent terminal to vent pipe. Locate ventpipe such that vent terminal is between six (6)inches and twenty-four (24) inches from wallwhen joined to inside vent piping. See Figure3 or 4.f. Insert vent pipe through thimble/opening fromoutside and join to vent system. Apply sealantbetween vent pipe and opening/thimble toprovide weathertight seal.2. Side Vent Installation. See figure 5.a. Horizontal vent/air intake runs with novertical rise in piping allowed.b. Do not exceed maximum vent/air intakelengths. Refer to Table 1.c. Recommended Horizontal Installation onlyconsists of vent/air intake sloped down 1/4inch per foot toward termination.d. Thimbles, same as “C” above in section D.1e. same as “D” above in section D.1f. same as “E” above in section D.1g. same as “F” above in section D.1Figure 3: Side Top Vent11
