V. Gas PipingWARNINGFailure to properly pipe gas supply to boilermay result in improper operation and damageto the boiler or structure. Always assuregas piping is absolutely leak free and of theproper size and type for the connected load.An additional gas pressure regulator maybe needed. Consult gas supplier.A. Size gas piping. Design system to provide adequate gassupply to boiler. Consider these factors:1. Allowable pressure drop from point of delivery toboiler. Maximum allowable system pressure is ½psig. Actual point of delivery pressure may be less;contact gas supplier for additional information. Theminimum and maximum gas valve inlet pressure isstamped on the rating label and can be found in table3.2. Maximum gas demand. Refer to the boiler’s inputfound in Figure 1 or as printed on it’s rating label.Also consider existing and expected future gasutilization equipment (i.e. water heater, cookingequipment).3. Length of piping and number of fittings. Install sediment trap, ground-joint union and manualshut-off valve upstream of boiler gas control valveand outside jacket. See Figure 14.4. All above ground gas piping upstream from manualshut-off valve must be electrically continuous andbonded to a grounding electrode. Do not use gaspiping as grounding electrode. Refer to NationalElectrical Code, NFPA 70.C. Pressure test. The boiler and its gas connection must be24NOTICEUSA boilers built for installation at altitudes greater than 2,000 feet above sea level have beenspecifically orificed to reduce gas input rate 4 percent per 1,000 feet above sea level per theNational Fuel Gas Code, NFPA 54/ANSI Z223.1.
