ST. ROSE-McCARTHY AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMFAMILY HANDBOOKSt. Rose-McCarthy School has an After School Program available for all school families. Thisprogram was started in response to many families need for a safe, affordable child care option.PHILOSOPHYSt. Rose-McCarthy School, a Christ - centered community of faith, is dedicated to the education ofchildren.With parents as primary educators, the faculty and staff facilitate the development of the whole child.In line with Church teaching and Gospel values, our school instills the expectation for each student tobecome a committed Catholic, concerned citizen, confident communicator, and competent problemsolver.Our community of believers acts as the foundation for preparing students for life as members ofChurch, family, civic, economic, and global communities.ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTUREThe St. Rose-Thomas McCarthy After School Program is defined by the State of California as anExtended Day Care Program, an extension of the regular school day. As such, the St. Rose-Thomas McCarthy After School Program is under the supervision of the principal and policies of theAdvisory Council. The students in the St. Rose-McCarthy After School Program are covered underthe school student insurance. St. Rose-McCarthy School reserves the right to admit, readmit, or denyadmission to any student.St. Rose-McCarthy School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, and national and/orethnic origin, age, gender, or disability in the administration of educational policies, athletic and otherschool-administered programs.St. Rose-McCarthy After School Program follows the guidelines set forth in the Parent/TeacherHandbook and the Diocesan Administrative Handbook.FEESSt. Rose-McCarthy Catholic School provides a child care system for our students, in order to providea convenient, supervised program which is affordable to all.The after school program is available after every school day except minimum days beforeThanksgiving and Easter holidays and the last day of school. Children must be picked up by5:30 p.m. Parents may register their children for daily participation or for only certain days eachweek.HOURLY RATES: $3.00 per hour - per child (one hour minimum charge)30
Families who use this program on a regular basis must pay in advance. Families who use thisprogram on an occasional or "Drop-in" basis must pay in full when children are picked up.**A.M Extended Care is $15.00 per week or $3.00 per day per child.A $25.00 charge will be assessed for all returned checks.LATE FEEStaff members are employed until 5:30 p.m. It is only common courtesy to respect the time ofclosure. A fee of $5.00 every 10 minutes, per child, will be assessed for late pick-ups.BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONSStudents are expected to show respect for and to follow the directions of the After School Programstaff at all times. Students are expected to be courteous and respectful to one another.Inappropriate behavior such as fighting, obscene language or gestures, continued willfuldisobedience, or defacing of property, may result in a student being dismissed from the program.After School Program behavioral expectations and procedures should remain consistent with those ofthe school. Parents will be notified in writing of recurring behavioral problems and fair warning mustbe given when contemplating excusing a child from the program.SIGN-IN - SIGN-OUT PROCEDUREChildren are signed in at the time school is dismissed. Children must be signed out by a parent or anauthorized person. If parents have a change of plan regarding the pick-up of their children, theSt. Rose-McCarthy staff must be notified in writing.SICK CHILDRENChildren who have been absent from school or sent home ill are not accepted that day into AfterSchool Program. Children with runny noses (other than clear), continuous cough, red throat, pinksticky eyes, unexplained rashes, swollen glands, head or stomach ache, unexplained open sores, orfever, within twenty-four (24) hours, will not be accepted in the After School Program. When a childbecomes seriously injured at the After School Program, the parent will be notified immediately, andwill be expected to pick up their child immediately.Parents MUST provide the program with viable emergency phone numbers on their registrationforms. Only medication which is clearly labeled may be administered by the staff. Medications mustbe accompanied with a medication form signed by the attending physician.EMERGENCY PROCEDURESIn the event of a major emergency, the St. Rose-McCarthy staff will follow the same procedures usedby the school. We will release children as you indicated on your emergency forms.31
