DefinitionsDefinitionsWherever the following words and phrases appear in thispolicy they will always have these meanings:Close Relative – see Immediate Relative.Close Business Associate – Any person whose absencefrom business for one or more complete days at thesame time as your absence prevents the effectivecontinuation of that business.Complications of pregnancy and childbirth –see <strong>Travel</strong>ling When Pregnant on page 9.Curtail/Curtailment – Return early to home in theUnited Kingdom or Republic of Ireland.Excesses – An excess means that you are responsiblefor the first sum per person per incident when youclaim. The amount of any excess is detailed in the <strong>Policy</strong><strong>Wording</strong> on the Summary of Cover page, and under theSections to which an excess applies. Claims under mostsections of the policy will be subject to an excess, whichapplies to each insured person involved in an incident, asdo the sums insured under each section.Fitness to travel – is defined as taking into accountdestination, duration and mode of travel, the insured arenot likely to need medical intervention during their trip.Golf Equipment – golf clubs, golf balls, golf bag, golftrolley and golf shoes.Home – Your residential address in the United Kingdomor Republic of Ireland.Home Country – is the United Kingdom or the Republicof Ireland if this is your usual country of residence.Immediate Relative – Mother, father, sister, brother,wife, husband, partner (same or different sex), son,daughter (including fostered/adopted son or daughter),grandparent, grandchild, parent-in-law, son-in-law,daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, stepparent,step-child, step-brother, step-sister, or legalguardian.Medical Practitioner – A registered practising memberof the medical profession who is not related to you orto any person you are travelling with, or intending tostay with.Money – Cash, postal and money orders, travel tickets,lift passes (in respect of winter sports trips wherethe appropriate premium has been paid), passports,petrol coupons and green cards held by you for social,domestic and pleasure purposes.Mobility Aids – Wheelchair, motorised wheelchair,prosthetic limb, walking frame, walking stick or crutches.Personal Accident – Accidental bodily injury causedsolely and directly by outward violent and visible means.Personal Baggage – Your suitcases (or similar luggagecarriers) and their contents usually taken on a trip,together with articles worn or carried by you for yourindividual use during your trip.Permanent Total Disablement – Disablement as aresult of which you are unable to carry on or performany business or occupation, and which, having lastedfor a period of 12 months is, at the end of that periodbeyond hope of improvement.Pre-existing medical condition – any disease, illness orinjury which:• you have received medication, advice or treatment; or• you have experienced symptoms whether thecondition has been diagnosed or not.Preventative Medication – Any medication prescribedor otherwise which is taken purely to prevent an illness ormedical condition occurring. Examples may include, betablockers to prevent Migraine Headaches, Blood thinningdrugs to prevent blood clots on long haul flights (whereno previously diagnosed related medical condition hasexisted). Statin drugs where high cholesterol has NOTbeen previously diagnosed, Birth Pill, HRT, etc.Public Transport – Any fare paying passenger on thefollowing regular scheduled forms of transport: Train,Coach, Taxi, Bus, Aircraft and Sea Vessel.Redundancy – Any person declared redundant, whois under 65 years and under the normal retiring age forsomeone holding that person’s position, and who hasbeen employed for two continuous years with the sameemployer at the time of being made redundant.Ski Equipment – Skis (including bindings), ski boots, skipoles and snowboards.Ski Pack – Pre-booked lift passes, hired skis and bootsand ski school fees.Unattended – where you are not in full view of orin a position to prevent unauthorised taking of yourproperty unless it is in a locked room, safe, in a lockedboot of a locked vehicle or in the luggage space at theback of a locked estate car or locked hatchback under atop cover and out of view.United Kingdom – England, Scotland, Wales, NorthernIreland, the Scilly Isles, the Isle of Man and ChannelIslands.United Kingdom resident – You must have resided inthe UK or Republic of Ireland for no less than 6 months,have a permanent UK or Republic of Ireland addressand be registered with a UK or Republic of IrelandGeneral Practitioner.Valuables – Watches, furs, leather goods, animal skins,silks, jewellery, items made of or containing preciousstones, semi precious stones, gold, silver or platinum,photographic, audio, video and electrical equipment ofany kind, camcorders and accessories, all photographic/digital/optical/audio and video media, iPods, MP3players and / or accessories, telescopes, and binoculars.We/Us/Our – MAPFRE Asistencia CompañíaInternacional de Seguros y Reaseguros, SociedadAnonima. 5th Floor, Alpha House, 24a Lime Street,London EC3M 7HS.
