Font developersshould design glyphs <strong>for</strong> each member of the character collection, and mayuse this document as a reference when proofing <strong>CID</strong>Font files.The <strong>Adobe</strong>-<strong>Japan1</strong>-6 character collection includes a total of 23,058 glyphs,including the glyph identified by <strong>CID</strong>=0. The collection is divided into thefollowing sections:• Section 3: Supplement 0. This section contains the glyphs (<strong>CID</strong>s 0 through8283) that comprise the <strong>Adobe</strong>-<strong>Japan1</strong>-0 character collection. Supplement0 contains the glyphs necessary <strong>for</strong> supporting JIS X 0208 (1978 and 1983vintages); JIS X 0201-1997; and Apple ® , Fujitsu ® , and NEC ® corporatecharacter sets (JIS83-based).• Section 4: Supplement 1. This section contains the glyphs (<strong>CID</strong>s 8284through 8358) which, along with those in section 3 (0 through 8283), comprisethe <strong>Adobe</strong>-<strong>Japan1</strong>-1 character collection. Supplement 1 contains theadditional glyphs necessary to support the Macintosh ® KanjiTalk ® 7.1character set and encoding, JIS X 0208 (1990 vintage), along with additionalglyphs <strong>for</strong> the Fujitsu and NEC character sets (JIS90-based).Supplement 1 also includes glyphs <strong>for</strong> two new kanji characters introducedin JIS X 0208-1990; their ISO-2022-JP character codes are 0x7425and 0x7426 (Row-Cell 84-05 and 84-06, respectively). Also, the “Heisei”era-name kanji ligature was added (<strong>CID</strong>=8323).• Section 5: Supplement 2. This section contains the glyphs (<strong>CID</strong>s 8359through 8719) which, along with those in sections 3 and 4 (0 through8358), comprise the <strong>Adobe</strong>-<strong>Japan1</strong>-2 character collection. Supplement 2includes the additional glyphs needed to support the Microsoft Windows3.1J character set and encoding.• Section 6: Supplement 3. This section contains the glyphs (<strong>CID</strong>s 8720through 9353) which, along with those is sections 3 through 5 (0 through8719), comprise the <strong>Adobe</strong>-<strong>Japan1</strong>-3 character collection. Supplement 3includes additional glyphs that are pre-rotated <strong>for</strong>ms <strong>for</strong> all half-width andproportional glyphs found in earlier supplements. <strong>Adobe</strong>-<strong>Japan1</strong>-3 is consideredthe minimum level of support necessary <strong>for</strong> OpenType fonts.• Section 7: Supplement 4. This section contains the glyphs (<strong>CID</strong>s 9354through 15443) which, along with those is sections 3 through 6 (0 through9353), comprise the <strong>Adobe</strong>-<strong>Japan1</strong>-4 character collection.
