PROGRAMME FOCUSIHTTI comb<strong>in</strong>es the <strong>excellence</strong> of traditional Swisshospitality tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g with <strong>in</strong>ternational st<strong>and</strong>ards of bus<strong>in</strong>ess& <strong>management</strong> <strong>education</strong>, with a particular emphasis onthe latest <strong>in</strong>novations <strong>and</strong> trends <strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>dustry, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g<strong>design</strong>, technology, <strong>and</strong> luxury br<strong>and</strong> <strong>management</strong>. Thecurriculum covers all relevant aspects of <strong>hotel</strong> <strong>management</strong><strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>cludes practical tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> operational areas. Students<strong>in</strong> the Bachelor programme graduate with a BA (Hons)<strong>in</strong> International Hospitality & Design Management, whilePostgraduate students receive a Diploma <strong>in</strong> InternationalHospitality <strong>and</strong> Design Management.OFFICIAL LANGUAGEAll programmes are taught <strong>in</strong> English.ENGLISH FOUNDATION PROGRAMMEThrough the SEG English Foundation programme studentscan improve their English skills before start<strong>in</strong>g theirhospitality programme. See page 29 for details.FOREIGN LANGUAGESForeign languages are vital skills <strong>in</strong> the hospitality <strong>in</strong>dustry.IHTTI offers French, German or Spanish classes to itsstudents, depend<strong>in</strong>g on their <strong>in</strong>dividual needs <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>terests.GUEST LECTURERSIHTTI frequently <strong>in</strong>vites guest speakers to give lectures onhospitality related topics.LIBRARIESBooks, periodicals <strong>and</strong> journals on hospitality <strong>and</strong> relatedtopics can be found <strong>in</strong> the school library. The library is wellfurnished with up-to-date resources.IHTTI students can also obta<strong>in</strong> a Neuchâtel library card,which entitles them to use the city’s university <strong>and</strong> publiclibraries.Students enrolled <strong>in</strong> the f<strong>in</strong>al year BA programme alsohave access to the University of Derby’s library <strong>and</strong> onl<strong>in</strong>edatabase system.IHTTI students also have free access to a wide range ofelectronic databases, which store thous<strong>and</strong>s of academic<strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry articles.ACADEMIC MATERIALIHTTI uses the latest books <strong>and</strong> teach<strong>in</strong>g materials.CLASS SIZESmall classes allow <strong>in</strong>tensive <strong>in</strong>teraction between lecturers<strong>and</strong> students <strong>and</strong> ensure a high level of personal attentionto each student.PAID INTERNSHIPSThe <strong>in</strong>ternship is an <strong>in</strong>tegral part of the academicprogramme. Years 1 <strong>and</strong> 2 <strong>in</strong>clude a 4-6 month paid<strong>in</strong>ternship <strong>in</strong> Switzerl<strong>and</strong> or around the world. The IHTTIInternship Office arranges the 1st year <strong>in</strong>ternships <strong>and</strong>supports students <strong>in</strong> f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g a placement <strong>in</strong> the second year.The <strong>in</strong>ternship office monitors all <strong>in</strong>ternships.Students complet<strong>in</strong>g an <strong>in</strong>ternship <strong>in</strong> Switzerl<strong>and</strong> receivea gross salary of CHF 2’168.- to CHF 2’450.- per month.Deductions for food, taxes, accommodation <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>suranceare approximately CHF 1’000.- per month.For students who wish to complete their <strong>in</strong>ternship abroad,the <strong>in</strong>ternational employer must be approved by the school.International <strong>in</strong>ternship salaries vary depend<strong>in</strong>g on theconditions <strong>in</strong> each country.GRADUATIONThe IHTTI Graduation is a biannual event, which is traditionallyheld <strong>in</strong> the historic gr<strong>and</strong> Château of Neuchâtel, thegovernmental seat for the Canton of Neuchâtel.SCHOOL OF HOTEL MANAGEMENTSWITZERLAND13
