This section has proven to be popular since its reintroduction. We must thank those who have contributed
sightings, directly and indirectly, includings Messrs. Haywood, Sykes, Smith, Martin, Chubb, Thompson, Johnson,
Scotford, Madge, Stapley, Little, Warren and Walker. Reports should be sent by email to the Editor’s address (on
the front cover) or via the Circle Post Office. It is worth a reminder here that vehicles from certain countries
display their chassis numbers externally. German vehicles carry a compliance sticker on the rear with the last
seven digits of the VIN; these stickers can often still be found on second-hand exports to Eastern European
operators. Belgian vehicles have the last part of the VIN on the sticker in the windscreen that also shows the
registration number. Swedish vehicles have the last part of the VIN stamped onto the numberplates. With
Spanish vehicles, the ‘CIF’ number (letter plus eight digits) carried on a card in the windscreen combined with the
registration may help us to trace chassis numbers through official sources.
