Subject: Language ArtsLesson Title: Football Expressions in EverydayLanguageGoals/Objectives:• Students will study idiomatic expressions with examples.• Students will find ordinary sports terms that have been incorporated into the everydaylanguage expressions.• Students will construct <strong>com</strong>plete sentences to show these sports terms expressions.National Standards met: Language Arts – 4, 5, 9Methods/Procedures:• To begin this lesson, the teacher will write one of the suggested football terms on theboard. Students will suggest a sentence to write that will use this term in an everydayexpression.• For example, “tackle” is written on the board. A sample sentence might be “I guess Iwill have to tackle doing the laundry by myself since Mom’s not here to help me.”• After five minutes of the students’ brainstorming, the instructor will distribute ahandout of fifteen terms for which the students will construct sentences. They will beencouraged to think of other terms not on the list.Materials:• The handout entitled “Let’s Talk Sports”• Pen/Pencil• Internet sites and access to draw extra expressions from.
