Physician Practice Advocate | NEWSCMOM SuccessThe WVSMA is proud to be theexclusive West Virginia partner withthe Practice Management Institute.The Inaugural CMOM classwas a great success! Thirtythreeambitious officeadministrators attended the four dayinaugural class, which was sponsoredby the WVSMA and hosted by St.Francis Hospital in Charleston, WestVirginia. The course, held on twoconsecutive weekends, was taughtby Practice Management SpecialistRose Moore, CPC, CPMA, CEMC,CPC-I,CCP, PCS, CMC, CMOM,CMIS, CERT, CMA-ophth, a verycapable instructor whose highlymotivating teaching style kept theclass fully engaged at all times.In addition to completing thecourse, participants are required topass the certification exam in orderto become Certified Medical OfficeManagers. In order to maintain theircertification, they also must recertifyevery year by taking at least 12 hoursof CEUs (Continuing EducationUnits). Becoming a CMOM not onlydemonstrates that a manager hasadvanced skills and knowledge; itdemonstrates his/her commitmentto further continue his/her educationin all areas of practice management.The knowledge and skills that aCMOM has can help guard themedical practice against risks,increase the practice’s revenue and,most importantly, help the practicereach the ultimate goal of providingbetter healthcare for all patients.The WVSMA believes very highlyin education for our physiciansand their practices and willcontinue to provide outstandingeducational opportunities. Inaddition to the CMOM class, werecently held a Physician ChartAuditing Workshop and will beholding additional workshops ofthis type in the coming months.Due to the high demand for theCMOM class, the WVSMA hasscheduled an additional class whichwill be offered again in Charlestonin September. As before, the classwill be held on four days over thecourse of two weekends.
