UCO operates on behalf of the astronomers at allten UC campuses and is comprised of extensive technicalfacilities, a business office, telescope and support facilitiesat the Lick Observatory on Mt Hamilton and a staff ofastronomers. Its main activities are: 1) to coordinate UCresearch in optical and infrared astronomy, 2) provide theUC scientific and administrative interface to the KeckObservatory in Mauna Kea, HI, 3) maintain and operatethe Lick Observatory on Mount Hamilton, 4) design andbuild state-of-the-art optics, detectors, instrumentation, andsoftware systems, 5) support graduate and undergraduateteaching and postdoctoral training, and 6) contribute publicoutreach and education opportunities.Budgeted Research and Academic FTE: 21.20Budgeted Staff FTE: 53.07Postdoctoral Headcount: 21The UCSC branch of IGPP was established in 1999-00.IGPP dates back to 1946 when the founding branch wasestablished at UCLA. The IGP mission is to promote andcoordinate basic research on the understanding of theorigin, structure, and evolution of the Earth, the SolarSystem, and the Universe, and on the prediction of futurechanges, as they affect human life.The Chicano/Latino Research Center (CLRC), establishedin 1992, continues to be the primary institution supportingresearch on Latina/o and Latin American issues at UCSanta Cruz.
