Its main activities are: 1) to coordinate <strong>UC</strong>research in optical and infrared astronomy, 2) provide the<strong>UC</strong> scientific and administrative interface to the KeckObservatory in Mauna Kea, HI, 3) maintain and operatethe Lick Observatory on Mount Hamilton, 4) design andbuild state-<strong>of</strong>-the-art optics, detectors, instrumentation, ands<strong>of</strong>tware systems, 5) support graduate and undergraduateteaching and postdoctoral training, and 6) contribute publicoutreach and education opportunities.<strong>Budget</strong>ed Research and Academic FTE: 21.20<strong>Budget</strong>ed Staff FTE: 53.07Postdoctoral Headcount: 21<strong>The</strong> <strong>UC</strong>SC branch <strong>of</strong> IGPP was established in 1999-00.IGPP dates back to 1946 when the founding branch wasestablished at <strong>UC</strong>LA. <strong>The</strong> IGP mission is to promote andcoordinate basic research on the understanding <strong>of</strong> theorigin, structure, and evolution <strong>of</strong> the Earth, the SolarSystem, and the Universe, and on the prediction <strong>of</strong> futurechanges, as they affect human life.<strong>The</strong> Chicano/Latino Research Center (CLRC), establishedin 1992, continues to be the primary institution supportingresearch on Latina/o and Latin American issues at <strong>UC</strong><strong>Santa</strong> <strong>Cruz</strong>.
