OfficeIndustryDataCenterSPACE concept13SPACE – SecurityFire behaviourAs a result of the constant increase in the installed basis andthe installation density, the fire behaviour of data cablesis an important safety criterion. When manufactured accordingto the legal regulations and installed correctly, data cablescannot cause a fire. If they do catch fire, however, they caninflame and spread the fire. One of the aims here is to prevent the propagation of fire andthe resulting damage by using flame-retardant, halogen-freecable designs.MegaLine® data cables have improved fire protectioncharacteristics:■■Extremely low smoke development according to IEC 61034➔ Makes rescue and salvage operations easier■■Low toxicity (dioxins are not produced)➔ Reduces the risk of poisoning■■Free from halogens according to IEC 60754-2■■➔ No consequential damage to material assets as a resultof corrosionLow fire load values➔ Limits the exacerbating effects on the source of the fire■■High oxygen index (OI up to 45)➔ Reduces the flammabilityMegaLine ® Cu data cablesSecurity (fire behaviour)S1IEC 60332-2-22IEC 60332-1-23IEC 60332-3-244EFPGrade 15EFPGrade 2The five security levels with regard to firepropagation/flame retardance:S1 IEC 60332-2-2Testing of the vertical propagation in a core or individual cable.Test method: incandescent flame.S2 IEC 60332-1-2Testing of the vertical propagation in a core or individual cable.Test method: 1 KW flame. A flame is applied to the lower endof a vertical sample of the cable with a length of approx. 60 cmfor about 60 seconds using a type of Bunsen burner. Afterremoval of the burner, the flames must go out by themselves. The parts of the cable damaged by the flames must not reachits upper end (distance: 50 mm).S4 EFP (Enhanced Fire Performance) Grade 1In this cable bundle test, a flame is applied to the lower partof the test samples on a vertical ladder with a length of360 cm using a high-performance burner. During and afterintensive application of the flame for a test period of20 minutes, only about 1 m of the section to which the flameis applied may burn. Immediately after removal of the flame, the self‐extinguishing process must start. Only speciallydesigned data cables can stand up to this exacting fire test.S5 EFP (Enhanced Fire Performance) Grade 2This stricter security level is application-specific.S3 IEC 60332-3-24Testing of the flame propagation in an arrangement of severalcables, a so-called cable bundle, is carried out accordingto IEC 60332-3-24. In this cable bundle test, a flame is appliedto the lower part of the test samples on a vertical ladder witha length of 360 cm using a high-performance burner. Duringand after intensive application of the flame for a test periodof 20 minutes, the cables must not burn higher than 250 cm.Security levels S3, S4 and S5 are used in particularwhere high and very high security measures are requiredfor the protection of persons or material assets. For examplein hospitals, schools, hotels, airports, train stations, departmentstores or in power stations, DataCenters, banks and insurancecompanies, alarm systems.www.leoni-infrastructure-datacom.com
