Appendix ILetter of invitation22 nd July 2008DearRe: HERDA-SW: Scoping academic staff capacity to meet the future needsof NHS workforce across the South West – Phase 2, recruitment andretention of diagnostic radiography academics.Following our recent telephone discussion, I write formally to invite you toparticipate in our small project. The University of the West of England has beencommissioned to undertake the second phase of the above time limited project.Following the Council of Deans’ national Academic Survey 2005 into academicstaffing levels; it has been difficult to determine the level of detail required forworkforce planning in the south west. From the first stage audit of academic stafffrom all health and social care professional groups, this second stage intends tofocus on the diagnostic radiographer and midwifery academics with regard torecruitment and retention of staff.We are approaching you as the lead academic responsible for recruitment andretention of staff within the diagnostic radiography department. As discussed onthe telephone, we would appreciate undertaking a telephone interview with youat a date and time convenient to you. We intend to ensure the interview does notexceed 45 mins. We are also interested in the current demographics ofdiagnostic radiography academics in post and would like the email addresses oftwo members of staff who may be able to offer additional insights. Finally, we willalso be contacting your colleagues, Christine Heales and Karen Knapp, to spareus 10 minutes to share their views by completing a series of open endedquestions via email.The next meeting of HERDA SW will be 1 st October, so we are trying to completethe data collection during the first week in August or during the early part ofSeptember if that is possible, to enable us to report the findings at this meeting.For your information, we attach an information sheet, consent form and aninterview framework of areas that we would like to explore.
