4.8 Other important or unique values of the environmentThe route of the proposed <strong>Tarkine</strong> <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>Drive</strong> skirts the northern boundaries of thearea known as the <strong>Tarkine</strong> which is made up of a series of dedicated formal reservesand multiple use State <strong>Forest</strong> between the Arthur River and the Pieman River.All State <strong>Forest</strong> in this region has been assessed under the Tasmanian Regional <strong>Forest</strong>Agreement (1997), two subsequent 5 year reviews of the RFA and again during theTasmanian Community <strong>Forest</strong> Agreement (2005).The road predominantly passes through registered multiple use forest that has a 40-year history of management for wood production, recreation and conservation.The <strong>Tarkine</strong> has been nominated for National Heritage Listing.<strong>Forest</strong> reserves along the <strong>Tarkine</strong> <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>Drive</strong> (or close to) include:Lake Chisholm <strong>Forest</strong> ReserveJulius River <strong>Forest</strong> ReserveTrowutta <strong>Forest</strong> ReserveBalfour Track <strong>Forest</strong> ReserveSumac <strong>Forest</strong> ReserveRebecca Creek <strong>Forest</strong> Reserve.Conservation areas include:Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area (a very large area encompassing much of thearea between the Arthur and Pieman Rivers).<strong>Public</strong> reserves:There is a small <strong>Public</strong> Reserve at the Arthur River where the proposed road(Segment A) reaches the Arthur River.4.9 Flora and Fauna assessment methodologyThe assessment for matters of NES has been undertaken in accordance with theGuidelines for Natural Values Assessment. 2 The flora and fauna report prepared byNBES Ecosystem Services is provided in Appendix B.
