<strong>The</strong> perceptions <strong>of</strong> safety vary dramatically among individuals. Safety behaviors <strong>and</strong>attitudes at work are being driven by appropriate risk perception. It would be necessary toappreciate the general safety concepts <strong>of</strong> the electrical workers in the study by formulatingstructure questions in the interviews <strong>and</strong> questionnaires.2.1.3 <strong>Electrical</strong> Hazards<strong>Electrical</strong> safety involves a thorough underst<strong>and</strong>ing on the electrical hazards so that we willhave the correct perception in development <strong>of</strong> protective strategies. <strong>The</strong> National Institutefor Occupational Safety <strong>and</strong> Health has prepared a student manual <strong>of</strong> Safety <strong>and</strong> Health for<strong>Electrical</strong> Trade (NIOSH Publication No. 2002-123), in which electrical hazards arebroadly classified as follows.2.1.3.1 ShockElectric Shock is the physical stimulation that occurs when electric current passes throughthe body (Cadick, 2000). <strong>The</strong> degree <strong>of</strong> danger from electrical shock depends on theamount, duration, path <strong>of</strong> the shocking current <strong>and</strong> the general physical condition <strong>of</strong> theperson receiving shock. <strong>The</strong> damages <strong>of</strong> electric shocks arising from varying amount <strong>of</strong>current passing through the body are summarized in Table1.10
