The DALC has gone from strength to strength this year underthe direction of Anna Vincent-Hill and the excellent supportcommittee. It’s worth noting that from being ‘a great ideaover a glass of Pinot’, to taking part in the second MWCalbum it’s only been eight short months!The DALC convened on the morning ofthe recording – all suitable togged out inred, white and blue – to have a groupphoto taken to commemorate such aneventful day. The recording was to bedone in three sessions; Alto’s, Sopranotwo’s and last, but not least, SopranoOne’s. This meant a really longday for Anna and the recordingteam but they managed to notonly survive but also to retaintheir sense of humour. Quite anachievement after working fullonfor over nine hours!As I’m part of the first sopranosection we had to wait until thefinal group recording session of theday which started around six in theevening. When we turned up for oursession the overwhelming feeling was one ofexcitement about the prospect of being in a recording studiofor the first time – tinged with a hint of nervousness it must be said!Headphones were issued along with a warning about the sensitivityof the recording microphones - brought home to several of us afterwhispering questions to neighbours when we would suddenly bestartled to receive a disembodied booming response through theheadphones from our lovely producer John!We quickly launched into recording and even though the recordingteam had been ‘at it’ all day and were more used to dealing withprofessional singers, they were full of fun and helpfulness to calm ourrookie nerves and to make sure we produced a fabulous sound. I knowthat we were all grateful for the opportunity for a few takes eachtime just to make sure we were note perfect. I can’t wait to hear whatJohn, our DECCA Producer, has done with our voices and to be ableto say that I recorded an album with the Military Wives Choir - it wasa chance in a lifetime and one that I will treasure as it’s unlikely tohappen to me ever again.What an amazing experience to be able to say that for one briefmoment....
