Thisnew partnership has made it possiblefor <strong>CSUSB</strong> students to develop a fourminutenews segment every half hour,24 hours a day, seven days a week,called “Local Matters.”The program is broadcast to CharterCommunications customers throughoutSan Bernardino <strong>and</strong> Riverside countieson CNN Headline News. <strong>CSUSB</strong> studentsfrom the communication studiesdepartment manage <strong>and</strong> operate allcomp<strong>one</strong>nts of the “Local Matters” program.These students write the scripts,h<strong>and</strong>le cameras <strong>and</strong> other equipment,report news on-air <strong>and</strong> edit the segments.●Primary ColorsThe word had just come in. ABC News was projectingJohn McCain as the Republican winner ofthe California primary, <strong>and</strong> the bulldog of broadcastnews, Sam Dondaldson, pitched a relativesoft <strong>one</strong> to 22-year-old Jen Lehmkuhl (secondfrom left), a psychology major at <strong>CSUSB</strong>. “What doyou make of those apples, as we used to say?” heasked.Lehmkuhl, who just happened to be a McCainsuppporter, was laughing at the timeliness of thisnews. “Well, I’m definitely excited now,” she said. Lehmkuhlwas <strong>one</strong> of four Cal State San Bernardinostudents who joined collegians from seven universitiesaround the country to talk politics on SuperTuesday, Feb. 5, for an ABC News webcast. Appearingwith her were (from left to right) Jordan Arnswald,a biology major; Shantal Anderson, a masscommunications student; <strong>and</strong> political sciencestudent Colin Hale.
