A good chapter in lifeThe Alumni Association’s EOP (Educational Opportunity Program) Chapter sponsored a holidaygathering in December for students enrolled in the EOP Foster Youth Program. Chapter memberspresented students with gifts, including CSUSB sweatshirts and Starbucks gift cards, as well asschool and other supplies. Nellie staysactive as a tutor,and substituteteaches onoccasion.Konnie Zaharopoulos, B.A. English 1967,retired in July 2007 as supervisor of socialworkers for San Bernardino County’sDepartment of Aging. Konnie was employedwith the county for 39 years.IN MEMORIAMDarren Coffey, B.S. biology 2004, B.A. environmentalsciences 2004, died Jan. 25 in anavalanche near Wrightwood. He was a wildlifebiologist with the Front Country DistrictRanger in the San Bernardino National Forest.Aimee Corcoran, B.A. psychology 1999,M.A. education 2006, passed away April30. She was a teacher for 10 years.Ralph Frye, B.A. psychology 1983, diedJan. 13 in Arizona. He retired from theU.S. Air Force in 1976, and then workedas a child support officer for the San BernardinoDistrict Attorney’s Office.Dr. Gabrielle E. Peltier, B.A history 1984,M.S. educational counseling 1996, diedDec. 14, 2007, in Chesapeake, Va. Gabriellewas a professor in the Fielding GraduateInstitute at Norfolk State University.Stacey L. Herrmann, M.S. biology 1985,teaching credential 1998, died June 30, 2007.She was a 39-year resident of Redlands.Scott B. Mills, M.B.A. 1986, passed away May23, 2007. Scott served in the U.S. MarineCorps, achieving the rank of second lieutenant,and he was a Vietnam War veteran.John C. Stratton, B.A. administration1972, passed away Sept. 2, 2007. A WorldWar II veteran, John retired from the U.S.Air Force after 25 years of active duty. Healso worked for the U.S. Postal Service.Brigham Vargas-Murillo, teaching credential2001, died June 25, 2007. He taught Spanishat Silverado High School in Victorville.Larry R. Sharp, M.B.A.2003, received an honorarydoctorate of humaneletters at CSUSB’sJune commencementceremonies. Larry is thepresident and CEO of ArrowheadCredit Unionin San Bernardino. Along-time supporterof university programsand facilities, he currentlyserves on the President’s Advancement Council, theLeonard Transportation Center Advisory Board, and theDean’s Advisory Board for the College of Business and PublicAdministration. Larry has led Arrowhead Credit Union for25 years. In that time, ACU’s membership has increased sixfold, and assets have grown to more than $1 billion. ▲Kevin Grisham, B.A. criminaljustice 1997, was selectedby the National CollegiateConference Association toserve as director generalfor the first National ModelUnited Nations conferenceto be held internationally.He will direct the overallconference, which willbe in Xi’an, China in November.Kevin was directorgeneral for the 2006 National MUN New York Conferenceand, as a student, twice served as head delegate for CSUSB’saward-winning MUN team.
