RRTC ON COMMUNITY INTEGRATION OF PERSONS WITH <strong>TBI</strong><strong>What</strong> can I do?Discuss your headaches <strong>with</strong> your doc<strong>to</strong>r. This may help if there is acause <strong>for</strong> the headaches that can be treated <strong>with</strong> medication. If you aretaking medications, be sure <strong>to</strong> take them as prescribed.Look <strong>for</strong> triggers or situations in your everyday life that may lead <strong>to</strong>headaches. Sometimes stress can cause headaches. Sometimes headachesmay be caused by dehydration because you may need <strong>to</strong> drink more water.Try some <strong>for</strong>m of relaxation exercise. This can includethings like: taking several slow, regular, deep breaths;tensing and relaxing your muscles; or imagining yourselfin a special place that you find relaxing (<strong>for</strong> example, abeach). Some ways <strong>to</strong> help you relax are included in theback of this manual in Part A on page 63.Massage your head and neck. It may help <strong>to</strong> massage where it is sore orput a warm <strong>to</strong>wel or pad on your head and neck.Pace yourself – Do not try <strong>to</strong> do <strong>to</strong>o much at one time. You may need <strong>to</strong>take regular rest breaks.Limit or avoid loud places. Loud noises can cause headaches, fatigue,and irritability. If you notice changes in your mood orbegin <strong>to</strong> have headaches, make a note of your feelings anddecide if you should continue going <strong>to</strong> loud places. If youdo plan <strong>to</strong> go <strong>to</strong> noisy events, you may want <strong>to</strong> limit theamount of time you spend there.Fatigue/Feeling TiredThe most noticeable problem that you may have after your injury is fatigue.
