confidential – <strong>for</strong> guild <strong>members</strong> onlyPHARMACY PRACTICE CHANGES■■ “Cherry picking” has been prohibited in the new PSA.“Cherry picking” refers to the questionable practiceof turning away difficult business and focussing onthe simple and profitable prescriptions.■■ Allowable pharmacy intervention charges have beena hot topic. The interim PSA will preserve yourexisting right to intervention charge but prohibits youfrom charging a blanket or flat fee.■■ A handful of pharmacies have been abusing the weeklyclose control system. DHBs will work with the sector todevelop guidelines that will guide Audit andCompliance in their investigations. There is no proposedchange to the legitimate use of weekly close control.ADDITIONAL NOTES■■ The variations are now contained within the PSAitself. You will need to check Part P of your<strong>Agreement</strong> to ensure that it correctly identifies thevariations that apply to you.■■ There are numerous variations that, while commonplace,do not <strong>for</strong>m part of the nationally-consistent base<strong>Agreement</strong> and there<strong>for</strong>e are not covered by this <strong>Guide</strong>(eg Medicine Use Review services, rural top-up schemesetc). Please contact your local <strong>Guild</strong> representative, <strong>Guild</strong>HQ, or your DHB if you have questions regarding theselocal variations.■■ The work on the Procedures Manual is progressingand ongoing.■■ Aseptic <strong>Pharmacy</strong> <strong>Services</strong> and Sterile Manufacturing<strong>Services</strong> have been split into two separate servicespecifications.■■ Additional work will be needed to meet therequirements of the Sterile Manufacturing <strong>Services</strong>service specification.■■ Additional work may be needed to meet therequirements of the Clozapine <strong>Services</strong> contract asthe date of dispensing must now be entered into thesupplier’s website.■■ We continue to work with the DHBs on the next PSAincluding the funding model project, as well as issuessuch as patients near death, close control, weeklyclose control and fax scripts.The deadline <strong>for</strong> having your signed <strong>Agreement</strong>returned to your DHB is 28 February <strong>2010</strong>.PAGE 3
