Giant Squares in Green and GrayFun and Easy to Knit and Wear! A Great Gift Idea! This is a greatpattern to represent School Colors.Stitch: StockinetteSize: One size fits most. Hat is deep and ample size.Scarf measures 12” X 48”. Scarf is knit in (2) pieces.Yarn: <strong>Knitting</strong> Board Yarn or other DK weight yarn. <strong>Knitting</strong> <strong>board</strong>yarn is wool and Alpaca blend for softness.(2) gray and (2) green or aprox 1200 yds total.Needed:• <strong>Knitting</strong> Board (10” or 18” or 28”)• Knit hook• <strong>Crochet</strong> hook• Large sewing needleGRAY PART OF SCARF:Cast On 22 sts in gray. Place anchor yarn.Knit in Stockinette for 48” or 138 rows.Be sure to maintain even tension with this long continuous piece. Do this by pulling snuggly on yarnas you wrap around end of <strong>board</strong> to complete the circular.Bind off from <strong>board</strong> and also at anchor yarn with crochet hook.GREEN PART OF SCARF:Cast On 12 sts in green. Place anchor yarn.Knit in Stockinette for 48” or 138 rows.Bind off from <strong>board</strong> and also at anchor yarn with crochet hook.Sew these (2) pieces together down center lengthwise with double strand of yarn.Do this with loose hand to maintain stretchability of scarf.FRINGE:Cut 90 pieces of each color yarn aprox 10” each.Each end will have 30 fringes of 3 strands each.Alternate the colors. Start in center and each edge. Then place fringe in center of each space. Keepadding until you have 30 fringe of alternating colors.Another effect is mixing both colors in all fringes. (2) of one color and (1) of the other.Complete both ends of scarf with the fringe.GIANT-SQUARE HAT:Made by knitting rectangles. (2) pieces total.Cast On 22 sts in gray. Place anchor yarn.Knit 28 rows. Cut yarn.Tie in green.Knit 28 rows.Bind off.


Cast On 16 sts in green. Place anchor yarn.Knit 30 rows. Cut yarn.Tie in gray.Knit 30 rows.Bind Off.Lay knitted pieces together lengthwise with opposite colors together. Stretch wider pieces to matchthe narrow piece so that ends are together. Sew together using either yarn, as this seam will notshow.Now, sew the (2) top edges together for the back of hat.Using a double strand of yarn, create the top of hat. This will be the open end of the wider piece.Weave the yarn thru edge stitches and draw tightly for the top of hat and ready for the pom-pom.Lower edge will be rolled up to form a 3” brim. At center back of hat, tack the brim to hat with smallbite of matching yarn. Do same to front of hat so that the brim remains in place with opposite colorsmatching.POM-POM:Make (2) pom-poms, (1) gray and (1) green.For each-wind yarn around four fingers or other form approximately 50 times. Each wrap should be 4”in length to produce pom-pom with 1-1/2” length. Tie center of wrapped yarn with double strand ofsame color. Leave long tails. Make 2 nd pom-pom of other color in same manner. Tie both pom-pomstogether with double strand of either yarn. Cut all loops. Trim all for even and rounded pom-pom of 2colors, side by side.Place on gathered top of hat so that the colors are in contrast to those of the hat. Use tails of yarn tosew onto the hat. With crochet hook, pull tails of yarn into inside of hat. Tie ends of yarn togethervery securely.
