This database provided anintegrated view of the core sections, samples, and science data collected in all laboratorieson board the ship. The Janus database was continuallyimproved from 1997 through the endof ODP operations in 2003. Some enhancementsincluded modifications in calibrationprocedures, addition of new data types, andimprovements to overall database performance.A significant addition to Janus wasaccess to digital images of cores, core sections, and scans of prime paper data (e.g., handdrawnvisual core description notes).During the final decade of the Program, datafrom Legs 101–170 were migrated into Janus. The Janus database currently contains paleontological, lithostratigraphic, chemical, physical, sedimentological, and geophysical data frommore than 2 million ODP core samples (www.odplegacy.org/samples_data/data.html). Atthe end of the Program, all legacy data (Legs100–210) were transmitted to the National55
