FreeSpeak ® Digital Wireless Intercom SystemsInternal MenusA variety of beltpack menus areaccessible via the display using the scrolland enter buttons. Audio options such asheadset levels, microphone levels, andlocal sidetone can all be adjusted. Thethresholds of the alerts for low batterystrength can be set by the user.Answer-backThe beltpack has an answer-backcapability, using the large center buttonon the front of the beltpack. The answerbackkey can be used to answer anyincoming call to the beltpack, even ifthere is no identification label assignedto that caller. The caller can then beanswered and conversed with bypressing and holding the answer-backkey. The label of the caller appears onthe display above this key.PowerThe FreeSpeak beltpack is poweredwith a clip of four rechargeable AA sizeNiMH batteries. They will power thebeltpack for approximately 8-10 hours ofcontinuous use. Disposable Alkaline AAbatteries can also be used. The beltpackscan be charged in two ways. First, byusing the beltpacks internal chargercircuitry, allowing NiMH batteries tobe charged while still in the beltpack.Secondly, by using the specificallydesigned 5-way multi-bay batteryrecharger allowing standby rechargeablebattery packs to be available. This allowsthe continued use of the beltpackswhile the next set of batteries are beingcharged.Connection and CoverageThe connection between the FreeSpeakbeltpack and the heart of the system(either the Base Station or E-Que card)is made through the Active Antennas,where the receive and transmit functionstake place. Each Active Antennasupports up to five full-duplex wirelessconnections with FreeSpeak beltpacksin one coverage area. By co-locatingadditional Active Antennas, more than5 beltpacks can be supported in aparticular area.The omni-directional coverage areamay be up to 800 ft (50 to 150m typical)in radius, although typical distances inproduction environments range fromapproximately 160 to 640 ft (50 to 200m). 4-pair screened CAT-5 cable is usedto connect the Active Antennas, eitherdirectly to the two antenna ports on thebase, or via a 5-way splitter unit. Locallypowered Antennas may be located up to3,200 ft (1,000 m) away or 800 ft (250 m)when centrally powered from the basestation.
