FreeSpeak ® Digital Wireless Intercom SystemsFreeSpeakBase Station with BeltpacksThe FreeSpeak base station serves asthe heart of the wireless communicationsystem for all digital wireless beltpackusers. All wired and wirelesscommunications flow through the basestation. Each wireless beltpack and wiredintercom connection on the rear panelhas its own full-duplex port, and the voicecommunication from each is sampled, mixed, and re-routed throughout thesystem as desired. The base station supports up to 20wireless beltpacks, with a front-panelvacuum fluorescent display showingstatus and battery information. Eachbeltpack has its own timeslot and canbe individually addressed by the base, allowing multiple combinations ofbeltpack-to-beltpack and small-groupconversations to happen simultaneously.Highly ProgrammableFreeSpeak is highly programmable withsoftware menus on the base, accessiblevia the display and a push-to-enter rotaryencoder. Alternatively the base stationand beltpacks can be programmed by thePC-based software and then uploaded tothe system via a standard CAT-5 Ethernetcable. All aspects of the beltpacks, the rear-panel connectors, creation ofcommunication routes and groups can beconfigured to meet the user’s needs. Eachbeltpack, group and rear-panel connectorcan be labeled with a 5-character name, which appears on the base station andbeltpack displays. Relative audio levelsamong beltpacks, and input and outputlevels for the wired connections are alsounder software control.Registering Beltpacksto the Base StationEven in the most crowded RFenvironments, FreeSpeak remainsa closed system to interference andeavesdropping. Each beltpack’s uniqueID is registered with the base station andonly those beltpacks that are registeredcan communicate with the base station.Connectivity withWired CommunicationsThe system has 4-wire and party-lineintercom connectivity on the rear panelof the FreeSpeak base station. This allowscommunication with other wired intercomsystems.• Two party-line connectors(with loop-through)• Four 4-wire connections(transformer-isolated input/output)• Program feed input• Stage announce output• Stage announce relay outputFreeSpeak, Base StationFeatures at a Glance• License-free 1.8 - 1.9 GHz DECToperations• Supports up to 20 wireless beltpacks• Point-to-point and small group wirelesscommunications• Creates user placed coverage zoneswith up to 10 remote antennas• 10 LED active antenna indicators• Locate active antennas up to3,200 ft (1,000 m) from base station• Create, name, and assign groups• Two party-line and five 4-wireconnectors• Frequency and channel-hoppingtechnology automatically finds clearspectrum• Interrupted fold-back (IFB)functionality for on screen talents• 5 wireless party-line groups• Party-line call alert functionality4
