Other non-native Asparagus species tolook out for and eradicateThe Asparagus species outlined in the previoustable are emerging weeds in Australia. They are allnaturalised in limited areas of Australia but havethe potential to spread much further and negativelyimpact on a range of environments. If detected,these species should be immediately targeted forcontrol, thereby reducing their chance of becomingmajor weeds in future.We do not currently know the full distribution ofthese new and emerging asparagus weeds. If yousee any of these species, they should be reportedand targeted for eradication, if possible.Emerging asparagus weed speciesA. falcatus and A. virgatusAsparagus falcatus (sicklethorn) and A.virgatus are two emerging asparagusspecies in Australia that could becomewidespread weeds if they are not detectedand controlled immediately. Both speciescan germinate in conditions from full sunto more than 80% canopy closure and caninfest a range of coastal environments.
