The path from Farsh Loza connects to <strong>the</strong> biggest basin of <strong>the</strong> range,Elijah’s Basin (Farsh Eliya) (11), located right below <strong>the</strong> peak of <strong>Mt</strong>.<strong>Sinai</strong>. The Stairs of Repentance from <strong>the</strong> Monastery also leads here,entering <strong>the</strong> basin through an arched stone gate. The path from FarshLoza <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Stairs of Repentance join at a massive dam, close to awalled court with tall cypress trees <strong>and</strong> a cafeteria. There are also afew Byzantine buildings in <strong>the</strong> basin <strong>and</strong> a couple of composting toilets,which are probably in a bit better state than <strong>the</strong> ones along <strong>the</strong> maintourist route fur<strong>the</strong>r up. The basin is divided in <strong>the</strong> middle by a smallgranite hill, <strong>and</strong> from both sections you could get to <strong>the</strong> basin’s rim in<strong>the</strong> south, offering great views on <strong>the</strong> Wadi Farah–Wadi Arbain junctionbelow <strong>and</strong> <strong>Mt</strong>. Ka<strong>the</strong>rina in <strong>the</strong> distance. There is a steep path fromhere to <strong>the</strong> junction, with some steps built by monks still remainingintact. The main path to <strong>Mt</strong>. <strong>Sinai</strong>, however, is to <strong>the</strong> east from <strong>the</strong>cypress trees <strong>and</strong> cafeteria, first leading to a cutting (12) in <strong>the</strong>mountain a bit fur<strong>the</strong>r up.
