Each assignedathletic training student will attend all practices and competitions. As a general concept, athletic trainers shouldrecognize that rodeo is a dangerous sport and certain injuries are to be anticipated. Also, cowboys and cowgirls tendto have a different attitude toward competition as compared to other athletes. It takes a particular mind-set and loveof the sport to accept the risks and to be successful. Rodeo athletes tend to be reluctant to ask for, and receivemedical attention. Provided below are some specific guidelines for rodeo athletic training students.1. The University of West Alabama medical insurance coverage requires that an athletic training student be presentat all scheduled practices and competitions.2. The rodeo athletic training student must dress in traditional western apparel at all times when they are present ata scheduled competition. This means cowboy hat, long sleeve western style shirt, and jeans. Shirts may beprovided by UWA and must be worn by athletic trainers.36
