Plan to complete a requirementunder the Nature Study, Outdoor Life, or a Nature Honor.ObjectiveTake the initiative in decision making which will lead to positive results via a fun yeteducational activity.Teaching MethodsThis is the opportunity to introduce the Pathfinder to the world of nature through afocus of character and lifestyle development. Many clubs take this opportunity toteach through action the concept of Wilderness Stewardship embodied in the saying:Take nothing but picturesLeave nothing but footprintsKill nothing but timeThe distance is not as important as the time spent. Pathfinders can learn to identifyflora and fauna, they can look for spiritual lessons, become observant of thepresence of God's creatures, learn the value of silence and camouflage, etc.Emphasis should be placed on the participant's involvement in deciding the activityand planning the details. Some additional ideas:Remember to choose your location and arrange transportation well in advance.Preferably visit the site before-hand so you have some idea of the nature objects theclass is likely to find.1. Preparation before the nature excursion. In class some time before leaving forthe nature excursion, have the juniors record the things they would be likely tofind. Then with the use of a Concordance find the texts where the object ismentioned. e.g. Leaves - Revelation 22:2 "Leaves of the tree were for thehealing of the nations".2. Explain the activity on arrival. On arrival at the nature location, divide the groupinto pairs, each pair to have a Bible, pencil and paper. Ask the pairs todiscover and record as many objects of nature as they can equate with aBible passage. The leaders could have a Concordance to assist with thelocation of texts.
