Grid Job Routing AlgorithmsFigure 3.5: Point-to-multipoint connection.• AnycastingAnycast is a type of data transmission where data is sent from a single source to the nearest or best destinationpoint. The idea behind anycast is that a client wants to send packets to any one of several possible serversoffering a particular service or application but does not really care which one. The group of receivers isidentified with a single routing address, however only one is receiving the data at the same time.Figure 3.6: Anycasting.3.6 Multi-domain routingAn important problem of global communication networks is the difficulty to efficiently manage such networks.Indeed, large-scale networks are generally composed of smaller sub-networks, usually referred to as domains. The control and management of a single domain is performed locally, and information concerning state andavailability is in general not shared with other domains.
