4. To see to it that the actions of the Student Senate and the Honor Council are faithfullyexecuted. Any member of the Student Senate (President, Vice-President, or Senator)may bring charges against a Student Government official. The accused shall be removedfrom office by a two-thirds vote of the Senate;5. To initiate actions to revise and update the Honor Code from time to time;6. To approve student groups and programs;7. To allocate funds provided it by the College, as well as the other funds which it mayobtain, to the various organizations and facets of campus life which have submitted awritten request to the Vice-President of the Student Body at least one week (seven days)prior to the presentation of the request before the entire Senate.8. To appoint a Finance Committee in conjunction with other committees. The FinanceCommittee will be comprised of the Student Body Vice-President serving as chair, theSenate Auditor, and four other non-freshman Senators. The Finance Committee willreview and evaluate all monetary requests that exceed $200.00, prior to the initialpresentation before the entire Senate. The Student Body Vice President will beresponsible for informing the entire Senate of the proposals going before the FinanceCommittee so that the Senate will have the original request. The Finance Committeeconducts the evaluation in cooperation with the group making the request. The club ororganization that is requesting funding must then present the request before the Senate.Following this process, the chair of the Finance Committee will make a recommendationto Senate. Final authority of allocation of funds resides with the Senate;9. To pass any allotment of funds by a two-thirds majority vote of those Senators present,with the Vice-President voting only if his/her vote determines the two-thirds vote; and10. To pass on and take actions deemed appropriate pursuant to this Constitution and inkeeping with all College policies and regulations.Section 4Student Senators shall1. Attend all Senate meetings and all meetings of any standing committees to which they areassigned;2. Serve on at least one standing committee;3. Serve on committees, as able, at the request of the Student Body President or Vice-President;4. Be encouraged to attend all student forums, whenever possible;5. Perform other reasonable duties assigned by the Student Body President or Vice-President;6. Submit topics that deserve Senate consideration to the Student Body Vice-President atleast twenty-four (24) hours prior to every Senate meeting; and96
7. Act as a liaison between Senate and the students by seeking ideas from and reporting theevents of Senate meetings to an assigned student population.ARTICLE IISection 1The chief executive of the Student Body shall reside in a President who shall serve a term of oneacademic year.Section 21. Both the President and the Vice-President of the Student Body shall be popularly electedby the Student Body of the College.2. No persons shall be candidates for these offices who are not full time students of theCollege during the academic year prior to the year of the term sought and who have nothad a minimum of one-year experience as a Bridgewater College Student Senator.3. Before assuming the powers and duties of the office, the President-elect shall take thefollowing oath: ―I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office ofthe Student Body and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend theConstitution of the Student Government and uphold the ideals of Bridgewater College.‖Section 3The President shall have powers1. To veto statutes passed by the Senate;2. To nominate and, with the consent of two-thirds of the Senate, appoint studentrepresentatives to all appropriate College committees, Senate committees, councils, andboards; members of the Honor Council whose appointments are not herein otherwiseprovided for, but Senate may vest the appointment of lesser officers, as it thinks proper,in the President alone, in the Honor Council, or in cabinet officers;3. To inform the Senate and the College‘s Council on Student Affairs and the President ofthe condition of the Student Body and recommend measures as he/she shall deemappropriate;4. To convene meetings of the Student Body; and5. To see to it that the actions of the Student Senate, and the Honor Council are faithfullyexecuted.Section 4Upon removal, resignation or inability of the President to serve, the Vice President shall assume hisor her office and the Senate shall elect a new Vice-President.ARTICLE IIISection 197
