As theLED application market expands, anannual growth rate of 40% is predicted ineach of the next 2 years, resulting in a USD11.3-billion market in 2012. Taiwan’s LEDmanufacturers have, says PIDA, “becomemembers of the international supply chainthanks to technical know-how, lower pricesand outstanding quality, and have enteredthe high-growth application markets inbacklighting and lighting.”In 2010 PIDA says that Taiwan was thenumber-one-ranked country in the worldin terms of the production output of LEDwafers and chips, with sales just below USD2 billion, of which InGaN LEDs comprised52%. The market for packaged LEDs wasslightly less than USD 3 billion. Thepurchase price was not disclosed. Siteco hasa worldwide workforce of 1250 and had revenueof around EUR 220 million in fiscal year2010.
